Schumacher, six years after accident
On Sunday (29), it is six years since the former Formula 1 driver, German Michael Schumacher, had an accident that completely changed his life. His fall in Meribel, France, during a ski race caused a serious head injury. It has undergone two operations and little is known of the current state.
What has happened to him since then is shrouded in a great mystery at the family's request. Something that the Spanish daily "As" tried to delve into the issue published on Sunday (29).
Schumacher remained in critical condition and induced coma for months. It took 254 days to leave the hospital and move to her home in Lausanne, Switzerland. From there, silence. The Kaiser has always wanted his private life to be just that, private, so the family has closed its doors and focuses on recovering the seven-time champion of F-1.
During 2019, however, there was news. The German was taken to the George Pompidou Hospital in Paris on several occasions, as he published in the summer 'Le Parisien', leaving his home to undergo experimental stem cell treatment directed by surgeon Philippe Menasche.
According to a nurse's testimony to the same newspaper, "he is aware." Although without official communications in five years, Schumacher's health status, which will turn 51 next Friday, remains the best kept secret.
Outside of his family, there are few people who have been allowed to visit him at this time, some from the motorsport world. One of them was Jean Todt (FIA president and former Ferrari boss). He said he saw an F1 race with the German on television and that "he is at home in the best hands".
While everything about the former F-1 rider remains locked, the Schumacher clan is once again very much present in the paddock to accompany Mick Schumacher, Michael's youngest son. Sabine Kehm, the champion's historic manager and press chief, personally took over the 20-year-old's career.
In fact, he followed from the same garage the first official test of the German with an F-1 in Bahrain under the Ferrari SF90 and under the supervision of Maranello's bosses.
