DUNLOP

MUTANT, the ‘crossover’ tyre for all kinds of roads and weather conditions

Dunlop launches The New Mutant, an incredibly versatile tire, with a crossover approach, to much of the two-wheel market. Dunlop's New Mutant adapts to all stations, all roads and more than 370 different models of motorcycles, whether adventure, sport-touring, naked, retro or scrambler.
Dunlop Mutant will be on sale in January 2020 and results from the combination of the knowledge acquired with Dunlop's award-winning hypersport and Sport touring tires with the technologies developed in competition under wet conditions. Dunlop called this fusion of innovations "4 Seasons Technology", which includes a mixture of cover material, construction and compounds designed to ensure maximum performance in the most difficult weather conditions, including in winter. An example of this is the fact that the Mutant has the mark " M+S” (mud and Vene, or Mud + Snow), which means that it adapts to truly extreme conditions.
Dmitri Talboom, Product Manager of Dunlop Moto in Europe, explains: “The New Mutant provides motorcyclists with the type of driving and stability expected from hypersport tyres, but in combination with better grip in wet conditions, thanks to our experience in competition, in addition to the durability expected from a tourist tyre. Dunlop has a wide experience in Deportivo tourism tires, which, moreover, have won numerous tests, such as RoadSmart III, tyres for adventure bikes, such as the New Trailmax Meridian, and pneum for high-level competitions, used in the World Championship of Moto2 and the World Championship of resistance. Our development team has used all this experience to design a tire that adapts to all seasons."

Dunlop's Mutant range has five measures for the front tyre, and six for the rear, which means that more than 370 different models of motorcycles can be fitted with the new tyre. Dunlop's goal is to extend its range beyond the typical crossover bike, such as the Ducati Multistrada or the Yamaha Tracer, in order to bring crossover performance to a wider range of models, as Dmitri Talboom explains: “it is increasingly common for motorcyclists to use scrambler, retro and naked motorcycles throughout the year. Dunlop's research tells us that these motorcyclists are looking for a tire that offers them the answer and behaviour of a hypersport, but that gives them the confidence necessary to enjoy the trip, regardless of the climate. Dunlop Mutant offers this attractive crossover character unique".
The distinctive design style of Mutant's rolling band combines aggressive-looking blocks with a dynamic directional design. This original appearance combines elements of supermoto and dirt track, and is expected to make Mutant a popular option for special edition bikes, in which one seeks a unique style, but without compromising the performance of a completely new range of tires.
