Ferrari 488 Pista Beats McLaren P1, Porsche 918 In Anglesey Circuit
We always expect Ferrari to churn out the next great mid-engine supercar, but in the case of the 488 Pista, they appear to have outdone themselves.
Evo magazine took the 488 Pista to the Anglesey circuit in order to set a lap time for its leaderboard and the result was just eye-popping; the current hottest mid-engine Ferrari managed a 1:10.8, becoming the fastest supercar they tested on the site, beating rivals like McLaren’s P1 and 720S and Porsche’s 918 and 911 GT2 RS in the process.
It sounds almost unbelievable, but watching how the Italian supercar attacks the challenging bends of Anglesey at the hands of Steve Sutcliffe and listening to these race car-like upshifts and downshifts from the dual-clutch gearbox will make you gasp with wonder.
Power comes from the a road-going version of the engine found in the 488 Challenge race car, which produces 711 HP (720 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of peak torque. The bodywork’s advanced aero produces 20 percent more downforce than the ‘regular’ 488, while weight has also went down by 200 lbs (90 kg).
Ferrari had a team of engineers on the spot to ensure that the 488 Pista would perform at its best, as is the case with most track tests involving one of their press cars. The end result was simply amazing, as the supercar demonstrated tremendous grip, shooting itself to the next apex with ferocious energy and eventually beating every road-legal opponent to submission.
