VOLVO
The cars of the brand already communicate with each other
Volvo has announced that the connected safety systems "Hazard Light Alert" and "Slippery Road Alert" will be extended to the whole European territory.
This technology uses the cloud to share information between Volvo vehicles, which means, in practice, that drivers will be warned of the presence of possible hazards on the road.
Slippery Road Alert - allows the driver to be more attentive to the conditions of the road (namely related to the grip) because, anonymously collects information on the condition of the road from vehicles that move ahead.
Safety investigations by Volvo demonstrate that adjusting the speed level to real traffic situations greatly reduces the risk of accidents.
These systems were introduced in 2016 on the 90 series models. Initially available in Sweden and Norway, both will now be accessible to other European drivers. This feature will be standard on all new Volvo (from the model year 2020) but may also be applied on some previous models.
With the launch of these systems throughout Europe, Volvo Cars reinforces its invitation to the remaining builders to make them part of this anonymous data sharing which could lead to better road behavior and contribute to a real improvement in safety.
The impact of this sharing will be all the greater as more models are connected. It is recalled that, in Sweden and Norway, data sharing already occurs between Volvo cars and trucks.
"The more vehicles are sharing real-time data, the safer the roads become. We hope to establish new partnerships soon with companies that share our commitment to safety, "said Malin Ekholm, vice president of the Swedish Brand Safety Center.
