MERCEDES-BENZ

2019 C-Class Cabriolet in Black with the top downBrand charged with customer fraud
Kerry Costello is a British national who purchased a used E300 Class Cabriolet at a dealership in Suffolk. In the description of the characteristics of the Mercedes convertible could be read, among other details, "black leather interior", that is, lined with black skin. An extra for which the brand charges 912 pounds, about € 1,056, the alternative being a plastic dubbed the Artico.
Costello did not like the "touch" of the skin of his Mercedes and was even more behind when he read in the Daily Mail that another client, suspecting that the skin of their seats was not skin well, had it analyzed in a laboratory. And the result was that in some parts of the seat the cow's skin ruled, while in others it was a "skin" derived from oil, also known as plastic.
In possession of this information, Costello pressed Mercedes, who eventually confessed that he uses skin along with plastic to "give the coating more rigidity and structure", being a fact that this option is also cheaper and less noble. Unhappy with the answer, Costello appealed to the court, which condemned the German mark to pay € 900 for having lied in the specifications of its products. And Costello was not only entitled to higher compensation because he bought his used car, that is, he did not pay a specific amount for that extra, otherwise the penalty would be more serious. It remains to be seen what Mercedes customers will think the next time they sit on leather seats. At the very least, doubt can arise: did this skin come from the cow or from the crude refinery?
