TRIUMPH

Street Scrambler 2019-Super test

Last week we had the opportunity, at the invitation of Triumph, to test for the first time the 2019 versions of the Triumph Street Scrambler and Street Twin. The dynamic presentation took place in Portugal, in the region of Lisbon, where many international journalists attended. After a rainy week to penalize the tests of journalists who came from far away, he wanted the fate that on the day scheduled for Portuguese and Spanish journalists, the sun would impose its energy by keeping rain away throughout the day. However the roads along the course we carried out of about 200 km were still very wet and dangerous, with slippery ground, often in the darker areas of the curves, which forced a greater concentration in the early morning the conditions did not were the best, with the roads still very wet from the rain that had fallen all night. The day would be filled with two parts, the first one in the morning running with Street Scrambler and after the afternoon with Street Twin.

The Scrambler turned out to be the best option to tackle the roads still saturated with rains the whole week. The Triumph Street Scrambler apparently did not undergo major changes in its aesthetic and only the colors for 2019 were updated. The various Scramblers available to the journalists were all white, which in our opinion favors the model by highlighting the other elements and details of the bike. The finish of the various components is of the highest quality and the small details reveal all the attention that the engineers of Triumph have developed in this model. The Scrambler versions prepared for the presentation mounted luggage rack in place of the seat of the hangs, option that is included in the original model and also included heated cuffs, the latter an optional extra that was very welcome because the morning was very cold.

The driving position is quite comfortable with an open handlebar that allows us to place our hands on our wrists in a natural way, the seat has also been revised and seemed more comfortable than in the previous version, the foot steps are wider and more grip. The clutch is lighter and easier to engage because it includes a torque reduction system.

The Triumph Street Scrambler assembles 41mm telescopic KYB suspensions lined with typical bellows rubber protections and benefits from a new, revised, performance-enhancing interior cartridge compared to the 2018 model offering 120mm travel.

The rear shock absorber is also KYB and has spring preload adjustment and also 120mm stroke. The wheels are light-duty and mount rims 19 "at the front and 17" at the rear. We liked the performance of Metzeler Tourance mixed-flat tires, which proved to be very versatile, contributing to an increased sense of safety even in a corner and low grip conditions.

The 900cc twin-cylinder engine now has a further 10PS, delivering 65PS maximum power at a higher revving speed by 500 rpm than the previous one, reaching 7,500 rpm. The maximum torque of 80 Nm is reached at 3,200 rpm. The Street Scrambler includes Ride By Wire throttle with three Road, Rain and Off-Road engine modes. (The Street Twin includes only Road and Rain modes). Also includes adjustable traction control.

All the information is included in a new LCD panel where we can find an analogue speedometer, odometer, speed position indicator engaged, fuel level meter, distance indicator until fuel runs out, service indicator, clock, partial kilometers traveled , current and average fuel consumption information, display of traction control status, and level of heated handles - controlled by a handlebar mounted button (option that test bikes included).

Another of the improvements that the 2019 version includes is the braking which, by adopting a 4 piston Brembo caliper and 310mm floating disc, is now much more effective and very intricate. On the rear mounts 255mm disc and the caliper is Nissin 2 pistons. Braking is assisted by ABS on both wheels which can be switched off for OffRoad driving.

The two high side escapes have always been the Triumph Scrambler brand image and look more beautiful than ever. The round headlamp with Triumph insignia is an exclusive detail. The minimalist rear LED headlight contributes to the compact and high aspect of its rear Scrambler style.
