Will Power wins at Gateway and continues in title race
Penske rider Will Power follows the IndyCar 2018 title fight after beating championship favorites Alexander Rossi and Scott Dixon in a strategic duel on the long and busy 500 miles of Gateway.Power took the lead on lap 150 of the 243 lap race, leaving Dixon behind.The big issue of the race was the driver's stoppage numbers, with the strategy changing between three or four stops before Ryan Hunter-Reay caused a yellow flag on lap 172, forcing teams to put fuel. Most pilots in the three-stop strategy were forced to abandon itThe fight of the day happened between Dixon and Rossi after the last relay. Dixon followed Power knowing he would need to stop to put fuel, while Rossi chose to save and drastically reduced his speed.Initially dropping to P7, Rossi was able to stay ahead of Dixon after the Chip Ganassi driver stopped with 10 laps remaining to put 2.8 seconds of fuel.When those in front of him stopped, Rossi was second ahead of Dixon.
