VW I.D.R. BEAT PIKES PEAK RECORD

Romans Dumas and Volkswagen can already claim Pikes Peak's record after winning the 96th edition of the mythical climb in Colorado. A triumph - Dumas' fourth - that was achieved with the spectacular Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak, prototype of 680 hp with two electric motors inscribed in the class 'Unlimited'. Although all the players in this project would lower expectations and claim that the goal was to get the record for an electric model, in the end the trio formed by Romain Dumas, Volkswagen and I.D. R broke the stopwatch after reaching a mark of 7:57.148.
The record of 8:13.878 marked by Sébastien Loeb in 2013 with the Peugeot 208 T16 is already a thing of the past and the electric era arrived at Pikes Peak with the new reference record marked by Romain Dumas with the Volkswagen I.D. A. The sixteen-second advantage over the previous record simply goes to show the huge work completed by Volkswagen Motorsport in its all-electric electric prototype. Simone Faggioli scored a final time of 8:37.230 to finish second by piloting this time an M20 Standard SF.The third absolute position was for Peter Cunningham in command of an Acura TLX GT of the category 'Open'. The veteran rider clocked a time of 9:27.352. On the other hand, the podium of the 'Unlimited' class was completed with Fabien Bouduban, newcomer like Faggioli, teammate of the Italian and that nevertheless did not manage to take the full potential of Norma M20 SF. In fact, it marked a time of 9:28.254. Finally, highlight for the triumph in the category.
