S60 OFFICIALLY REVEALED IN THE USA

Volvo Cars on Wednesday unveiled its new Volvo S60 in an event that took place simultaneously with the inauguration of the first factory of the Swedish brand in the United States in Charleston, South Carolina.

"The new S60 is one of the most exciting Volvos ever made. It is undoubtedly a model for those who like to drive and who reinforce our position in the USA and China, markets with a lot of tradition in sedans thus creating new opportunities for growth for Volvo Cars, "said Hakan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars.

The presentation event was aimed at reinforcing the Swedish brand's commitment to the North American market in which this new sedan, the first Volvo model to be produced in the US, will play a key role."The dynamics of the chassis and the different driving modes provide excellent control and unique performance. The new Volvo S60 will also have some of the technologies already shared with our models of the lines 90 and 60, and will be one of the best sports sedans on the market, "said Henrik Green, senior VP of the Swedish brand's R & D area.

Building on the new SPA platform - Scalable Product Architecture, used in the 90 Series models and the new XC60 and V60, the new S60 also shares the safety and infotainment technology of the new V60.The new model will be available on the T5 and T6 petrol engines and the T6 (340 hp) and T8 (400 hp) plug-in engines - diesel engines will not be available.

 

The electrified version T8 will also have available a Polestar Engineered optimization with 415 hp.In terms of driving support technologies, highlight the City Safety System: automatic braking technology that helps the driver to avoid potential accidents. This is the only system on the market capable of recognizing obstacles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals, day and night and automatically braking - if the driver does not intervene, up to 50 km / h.In a world premiere for this segment, City Safety is now able to detect vehicles that are directed against the S60, on the contrary, braking accordingly - Oncoming Mitigation.Also highlighted is the improved Pilot Assist system, now available on the S60 with semi-autonomous driving up to 130 km / h. The driver is responsible for the monitoring, supervision and general operation of the vehicle. The new S60 also comes equipped with Run-off Road Mitigation systems, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and others. The optional Cross Traffic Alert with automatic braking enhances safety levels inside and outside the vehicle.Finally, the Sensus Connect Infotainment System is fully compatible with the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G systems, and keeps the drivers always connected. An intuitive control touch screen combines the functions of the automobile, navigation, connected services and entertainment applications.
