F1 journalists stolen in Spain
A controversy off the track caught the F1 by surprise on Friday morning (11) at the Circuit de Catalunya. While the track was getting the first and second practice free for the Spanish Grand Prix, the race car park was overrun and several cars that were there ended up with broken glass and stolen goods. The parking was for press vehicles and was highlighted as F1-guaranteed safety to anyone who wanted to enjoy. Even so, after the second free practice, when they returned to the cars, several members of the press discovered damages.Reporter Fritz-Dieter Rencken, of the English site 'RaceFans.net', was the first to post on Twitter the photo of several broken windows. "Absolutely unacceptable: several broken-down cars and broken windows in an F1-protected thesis media park."In response to Rencken's post, rider Karun Chandhok, currently a commentator on Channel 4's English network, also complained. "Our staff had a broken van and stolen backpacks with some equipment that was worth a lot of money. Ridiculous [especially] when you have security a few feet away."Another veteran reporter, Brad Spurgeon, who is not currently covering the category, said he had "two rented cars destroyed in the same parking lot years ago," he said.It is the first non-safety event involving F1 since the multiple incidents during the weekend of the last Brazilian GP. At that time, armed robberies posed an even greater questioning in the future of the São Paulo test.
