Volvo plans to increase production of the 600 hp hybrid sports car
Polestar, now a private label representing Volvo's high-performance electric vehicle division, is pondering whether to compensate for increased production from its initial model, the sporty Polestar 1.Since October, more than 5 000 people have stated that they would like to purchase a Polestar 1. The plug-in hybrid is 600 hp, has an electric range of 150 km, incorporates a carbon fiber body and is expected to cost between 130 000 and 150 000 euros. Currently, Volvo plans to produce 500 units per year for three years using a shift at its Chengdu plant in China.
"We're looking at whether it's possible to produce more than 500 units a year, I think there's potential to use two shifts," said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath to Automotive News.Polestar 1 will be present at the Geneva Motor Show from March 8 to 18. It will be launched in mid-2019. After the launch of its first model, Polestar will produce only 100% high-performance electric vehicles, for 2020, the launch of Polestar 2, an electric crossover.
