RALLY DAKAR 2018

Dakar, Step 12: Nasser Al-Attiyah win, Sainz loses 18 minutes ...Nasser Al-Attiyah won today's(18/01) stage in what is his third triumph of this Dakar. The Qatar rider maintained a fine duel with Stéphane Peterhansel in the second half of the day, beating him for 2m03s. Carlos Sainz loses in this stage 18 minutes but with an hour's breakthrough this morning for Peterhansel, and knowing that his team-mate will not attack him, he now has 44m41s to manage until Saturday, being therefore closer to his second triumph.Al-Attiyah could have secured third place today as he has earned his team-mates at Toyota, who are now 12 minutes (Ten Brinke) and Giniel de Villiers, nine behind the Dutchman. The duo of the X-Raid Mini, Orlando Terranova and Mikko Hirvonen came to the front in the opening round, but soon lost ground, with Bernhard Ten Brinke taking the lead, later falling behind his teammate, Al -Attiyah and Peterhansel, who from then on fought for primacy on stage. Giniel de Villiers was third in the stage, so the Mini X-raid men are still looking for a top 3 in this Dakar.
