In the early years of automobile history, manufacturers did not produce bodies. This work was performed by the bodybuilders, who received the chassis with the mechanics already installed and were in charge of the final assembly of the body and the interior. In some cases, it was the client himself who chose the bodybuilder, but the arrival of the monocoque chassis in the mid-twentieth century was the end of this practice.That's exactly what you want to recover from this project, to give the customer control over the design of your vehicle. Of course, it is not a question of generalist models, and that is why the virtual model presented as an example is precisely a sports model.This initiative is named Hackrod and is currently seeking funding for its project on crowdfunding platforms. The technology they propose is based on software that has not yet been created and will allow customers, in a very simple way, to design their own vehicle online.

The company announces that it will have available to the customer a series of models already designed to be modified if the client wishes, however, from a chassis and standardized mechanics, the customer can always modify the project.

The company has not talked about the specifications for now, since the project is really in its initial stages, but on paper has already been designed its first model, the La Bandita Speedster, which appears in the images. The car is born after the digitization of a competition chassis that allows multiple modifications in its body. Once the design is chosen, it is printed in 3D, so the possibilities are very wide.

Customer engagement ends with the exterior design and selection of the different specifications available. All engineering work, such as the integration of the different components, will be the responsibility of the digital platform itself. For now it seems to be a great and attractive idea, but still without an arrival date.
