France tests Volvo electric bus
The city of Marseille, France, is starting a pilot project with a hybrid electric bus from Volvo. The pilot will run for four weeks and will be driven by RTM (Régie des Transports Metropolitains). The city is the first in the country to test the Volvo hybrid electric bus, with the concept of rapid recharge of the electric motor battery at boarding and disembarking points and the use of biofuel (HVO). The tests are being carried out in a real operation, in line 82 in front of the Ethnographic Museum "Le MUCEM", in partnership with Volvo and ABB.The Volvo Electric Hybrid operates quietly and emissions-free, in 100% electric mode, for about 8 km. The electric motor battery is supplied at the fast recharging stations, installed at the bus stops in cooperation with ABB, taking from 3 to 6 minutes. The system is based on the OppCharge open load interface.

The vehicle's diesel engine is fueled with renewable biofuel HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil), drastically reducing emissions when the bus operates in hybrid mode, with the electric and diesel engines operating in parallel.Recently, Volvo has sold 90 hybrid electric buses to Belgium. The company also has orders from Luxembourg, Germany and Sweden. In total, Volvo has sold more than 3,600 electric buses worldwide.
