Renault Niagara

The Niagara marks a new milestone in Renault's international offensive. Developed for Latin American markets, this new pickup combines the comfort and technology of an SUV with the rugged power and functional qualities of a pickup. It is part of the brand's ambition to launch 14 new models in international markets outside Europe by 2030.

With the Niagara, Renault continues its expansion into one of its most strategic markets. As the first model to emerge from the "futuREady" plan, the Niagara signals the start of a new phase in the brand's international offensive. By 2030, Renault plans to launch 14 new models outside Europe to solidify its position as the leading French automotive brand worldwide. Capitalizing on the significant growth potential offered by international markets, Renault aims to accelerate both its growth and its electrification. The goal for 2030 is to generate half of its sales outside Europe, while increasing the share of electric and hybrid powertrains to 50% in these markets.

Alongside the Kardian and the Boreal, the Niagara is part of the renewal of Renault's product lineup outside Europe, particularly in Latin America. This strategy is based on developing vehicles that incorporate the brand's new DNA and technologies. Built on the RGMP pickup platform, it is specifically designed to meet the needs of customers in Latin America.
The Niagara represents a significant renewal in the pickup segment. It is designed to appeal to a broader customer base seeking a vehicle not only for daily use but also for leisure or business activities. Although pickup trucks remain strongly associated with commercial use, they are increasingly finding their way into a wider range of applications. They are now frequently used as personal vehicles, while retaining the practical qualities that drove their success in recent decades. Reflecting this trend, buyers are seeking greater comfort, in-car technology, and perceived quality, without compromising on payload capacity or off-road capabilities.

Latin America is currently one of the most dynamic markets for pickup trucks. In several countries across the region, pickups account for a significant share of vehicle sales, catering to a particularly broad range of uses. The three primary target markets for the Niagara are Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia; these markets alone represent the bulk of potential sales. Beyond these three, the Niagara will subsequently be imported into a number of other Latin American countries. "Niagara is the first pillar of the futuREady strategy, driving our goal to launch 14 new models in international markets by 2030. The RGMP platform will also provide the foundation for a hybrid powertrain at a later date. This will further contribute to our ambition of having 50% of our international lineup consist of electrified models by 2030. Designed, engineered, and built entirely in Latin America, Niagara embodies Renault’s brand DNA: bold, robust styling; a comfortable interior with ingenious storage solutions; and SUV-worthy in-car technology, including OpenR Link with built-in Google. I would like to thank the entire Renault team in Latin America for their collective dedication to this inspiring project," says Fabrice Cambolive, Chief Operating Officer of Renault Group and CEO of the Renault brand.

The lower section of the bumper, featuring LED fog lights, emphasizes the Niagara's robust character. "Alliance Black" body protection is combined with an off-road-inspired front skid plate, highlighting the vehicle's off-road capabilities while protecting the areas most exposed when driving off-road.

The Renault Niagara measures 4.94 m in length (4.91 m for the 4x2 version) and 1.72 m in height, with generous proportions that underscore its character. Viewed in profile, pronounced shoulders, powerful wheel arches, taut lines, and 17- or 18-inch wheels—depending on the version—contribute to a bold body style and a rugged look for a vehicle designed to go anywhere. Ground clearance is 233 mm.

The cockpit combines a 10.2-inch digital instrument display with a 10.1-inch central multimedia touchscreen. "The Niagara project is built on versatility. It is a vehicle that transcends the traditional concept of a work-oriented pickup. It also aims to be a lifestyle vehicle—a luxury vehicle. True to the brand's DNA, the Niagara offers exceptional rear-cabin space, along with ingenious storage solutions in the center console and behind the rear seats; every part of the interior has been optimized. The cabin design is particularly well-conceived, offering the perceived quality and comfort of an SUV," says Laurens van den Acker, Chief Designer at Renault Group.

At launch, the powertrain is based on a 1.3-liter turbo GDi engine with direct injection, delivering 158 hp and 270 Nm of torque. Depending on the market, the engine is compatible with gasoline or Flex Fuel systems—a key feature for countries like Brazil. Both 4x2 and 4x4 versions of the Niagara are available.

Renault will offer two transmission options: a six-speed manual and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Renault has placed special emphasis on integrating the cabin and the cargo bed to create a more harmonious body style with seamlessly connected sections. This sense of continuity is highlighted by the rear pillar, a key design feature. The rear door handles are integrated into the pillar—a stylistic choice that emphasizes the flowing lines.

At the rear, the graphics and tailgate design also reflect a focus on contemporary style. Together, these features create a cohesive visual identity that retains the classic styling cues of a pickup truck. For instance, the name "Niagara" is stamped directly into the metal of the tailgate, while a black horizontal bar extends into the taillights at both ends, visually widening the vehicle and giving it a more robust stance.

At the same time, the roof rails contribute to both the vehicle's functionality and style. They underscore its outdoor, lifestyle-oriented character while meeting the practical needs of users. The Niagara can also be equipped with redesigned sports bars. These serve more than just an aesthetic purpose; they also allow users to position and secure bulky items.

Niagara redefines pickup characteristics, blending SUV design with the practical qualities of a vehicle built for a wide range of uses. Its strong personality is expressed through a modern, robust, and high-tech design. This vehicle is equally at home in the city and on the most demanding terrain. Niagara possesses a strong sense of identity. The front end reflects the design language of large pickups, featuring an upright grille and a high hood with muscular lines that blend seamlessly into the front fenders, reinforcing the impression of rugged power and well-balanced proportions. At the center of the large black grille, the "Renault" name appears in large letters, highlighting the Niagara's identity as part of the brand's new international generation. The "Renault" name features a pixelated chrome finish. Full-LED headlights with glossy black surrounds incorporate a welcome sequence, while the daytime running lights feature a distinctive graphic signature.
