CAV

Cape Advanced Vehicles GT MkII based on Audi R8

To mark the 60th anniversary of Ford's famous Le Mans dominance, South African company Cape Advanced Vehicles has unveiled the GT MkII, a machine it describes as a spiritual successor to the GT40, rather than a traditional replica.

Rather than being based on a Ford, it appears to be based on the Audi R8, according to Carscoops.

The iconic Gulf-style blue and orange livery helps to mentally connect the new car to the original GT40, as do design touches like the round taillights and dual air intakes on each side, plus two air vents at the rear.

The modification of the donor R8 means the GT MkII has a modern aluminum and carbon fiber structure, along with all-wheel drive, electronic driver assistance systems, active aerodynamics, and state-of-the-art safety systems. Power comes from a 4.2-liter Audi V8 engine, but equipped with two superchargers. The result is 800 hp delivered at 7,800 rpm, accompanied by 880 Nm of torque and a redline of 9,000 rpm.

CAV claims a 0-100 km/h time of 3.0 seconds, and a top speed of 330 km/h.

The package also includes KW adjustable shock absorbers, Brembo brakes and an Inconel exhaust system, as well as a six-speed automated transmission (optional dual-clutch transmission).

Production will be limited to just 40 examples, at an as-yet-unknown price.

Model: The image shows modern replicas based on the iconic Ford GT40, specifically GT MkII models produced by Cape Advanced Vehicles.

Paint: The vehicles display the famous "Gulf" paint scheme, characterized by sky blue and orange colors, which became an icon of motorsport in the 1960s and 1970s.

Context: These replicas celebrated the 60th anniversary of Ford's historic victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
