Volkswagen ID ERA 5S: the Chinese VW sedan

The automotive market is becoming increasingly competitive in terms of intelligence, but many joint venture automakers have been slowly advancing in the urban automated driving sector. Experience with the technology does not keep pace with the daily needs of users in their day-to-day routines. The new ID. ERA 5S model has been registered by the Ministry of Industries and Technologies, completely breaking with the traditional concept of the Volkswagen brand worldwide. This is considered the first sedan to support Urban NGP for this company.

As the second version of the ID. ERA family of vehicles, as well as being one of the first sedan models in its group, the new model has dimensions situated between the Lamando L and Passat, with a defined position in a premium intermediate hybrid electric sedan. It is considered the main creation of the Sino-Volkswagen joint venture era 2.

The new car is equipped with the HiperDrive system, which allows NOA navigation both on the highway and in the urban center, easily handling traffic during peak hours and urban intersections. It can automatically change lanes avoiding obstacles. Furthermore, the special blue light of the intelligent system provides clear information about its operational status, which increases the feeling of safety during use.

The power and range performance is also remarkable. With a pure 160 km battery, it can well meet the daily needs of urban transport. Consumption in case of low electric load reaches only up to 2.8 L/100 kilometers, and its comprehensive capacity exceeds two thousand kilometers. Thus, use for long trips does not require frequent recharging, combining economy and convenience.

In the design concept, it maintains the minimalist style of the ID. ERA family, following the golden ratio in the main body; with features such as the sloping roof, continuous side lights, and semi-concealed door handles, thus increasing its elegance. At the same time, the brand maintains the quality standards of German styling, based on a rigorous control system and 8000 rules to ensure safety in the chassis, battery, and chassis adjustment, along with the traditional millennial techniques in manufacturing.

It can be said that the ID. ERA5 S fills the intelligence gap in mid-size and premium sedans from automakers' joint ventures, seamlessly integrating solid German quality, advanced automated driving with proper localization, and economical hybrid electric range. It offers a new option for families or individuals who need everyday vehicles, combining elegance, intelligence, and economy.

In terms of dimensions: length, width and height are 4836/1880/1505 mm, with a wheelbase of 2766 mm, while the wheels are from 17 to 19 inches (with tires 225/55 R17, 225/50 R18, 225/45 R19).

The vehicle has a front track of 1599 mm and a rear track of 1604 mm, a front overhang of 942 mm, a rear overhang of 1128 mm, while the vehicle weight is 1655 kg.
It is stated that the car will be equipped with the advanced intelligent driver assistance system Xingyun Zhixing.

The new car is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 1.5 liter gasoline engine and an electric motor. The petrol engine has a maximum output of 80 kW/109 hp, while the electric motor has a maximum output of 130 kW/177 hp. It is reported to have a pure electric range of 160 km (CLTC) and a combined range of 2000 km. Fuel consumption is 2.82 L/100 km (CLTC), while the maximum speed is 165 km/h.
