Ford GT Mk IV: the fastest American car at the Nürburgring

The Formula 1 brand wanted to put the finishing touch on its third generation Ford GT with an exceptional time on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, which rightfully placed it on the podium of the fastest cars in the Green Hell.

This is the Ford GT MK IV, a car not homologated for public road use (designed exclusively for tracks, but available in a limited edition of 67 units) that set a lap record of 6:15.977, a simply spectacular time. Incidentally, this makes it the third fastest car to complete a lap on the Nordschleife.

Because only the Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO and the Volkswagen ID.R electric surpass this. The Volkswagen electric car (which holds the Pikes Peak hill climb record) is not far behind (only 10 seconds), although the 919's 5:19 remains unattainable. But both are racing prototypes and are not commercially available. With a time of 6:15.977, the Ford GT becomes the fastest American car at the Nürburgring, the fastest car powered exclusively by an internal combustion engine, and, moreover, the fastest car a customer can buy.

It is also the most efficient Ford of all time, surpassing the time of the Ford F-150 Lightning Supertruck, which recorded a lap in 6:43.482 with Romain Dumas at the wheel, and that of the also electric Transit SuperVan 4.2, which clocked 6:48.393.

The driver responsible for setting this record was Frédéric Vervisch, a true Nürburgring specialist (with two victories in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring), who managed to extract every drop of power from the 800 horsepower Ecoboost V8 engine that powers the GT Mk IV.

The Ford Racing team reported that weather conditions were far from ideal, with lower temperatures than expected...which may encourage them to improve their performance...
