TESLA

First images of new driverless Cybercab have leaked as Tesla demos city street redesign

Tesla's first car without steering wheel or pedals will be joining the Robotaxi fleet in 2026 and preparations are underway. There have been numerous redesigns to make it more passenger-friendly.

Tesla will launch a more streamlined Cybercab on city streets next year, as part of the Robotaxi platform fleet.

The new Cybercab that will go into mass production has been showcased with design changes everywhere, especially on the interior side, with the goal to make it more comfortable for passengers.

Tesla has been testing the pedal-less Cybercab without a steering wheel on factory grounds ever since it was announced back in October 2024 and recently began taking the production-ready version out on public streets, too.

The Cybercab has been spotted in downtown Austin, where Tesla first started its Robotaxi ride-share platform. The paid service will be opened to owner vehicles and the Cybercab in 2026, likely when Tesla merges the FSD 14 (Unsupervised) branch with the retail FSD version available to the public in Q2.

Cybercab design changes:

New seats with more ergonomic cushions

USB-C ports in the central console

Redesigned trunk with more rugged lining and new carpet at the front

New ambient lighting

Two windshield wipers

Frameless windows

Powered doors with button at B-pillar and redesigned handles

Stronger, powered struts

New wheel covers and tires

New light bar and headlights

Air vent across the dashboard and recessed 21-inch display

There are numerous subtle exterior changes, too, such as redesigned bumpers, hatch, humps, or roof, as Tesla is applying the lessons learned from the testing on factory grounds and city streets.

It remains to be seen what will be the price per mile of a ride in a Cybercab compared to owner vehicles or Tesla's own Model Y units currently available. Elon Musk is on record saying that it could be as low as $0.30, but that is when the Cybercab is produced at scale and all the wireless charging and self-cleaning infrastructure is operational.

Current Robotaxi rides range from $1.25 to about $2 per mile, depending on the area and distance, but Tesla is sure to toy around with pricing more when the fleet expands with much cheaper vehicles like the Cybercab.
