Yamaha Tricera
Yamaha is also showing an electric three-wheeler called the Tricera at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The Tricera was first shown as a concept three years ago, and since then its design has evolved and now looks much more road-friendly.
The Tricera's design shares some similarities with Yamaha's current line of motorcycles, including circular headlights and two small daytime running lights that run horizontally across the front. It also has a complex nose and small covers over the front wheels.
Yamaha has also added a pair of small wind deflectors up front and a set of tiny exterior mirrors, which were not present on the original concept.
The interior now looks much more road-friendly and features a set of dark red seats.
Visually, the prototype shares the identity of Yamaha motorcycles, with circular headlights, horizontal LED daytime running lights, and small aerodynamic covers over the front wheels. The nose features aggressive lines and, compared to the initial concept, the new model includes wind deflectors, compact rearview mirrors, and a completely redesigned cockpit with dark red seats, a gold steering wheel, and gold paddle shifters.
The Tricera is powered by an electric motor, although Yamaha has not yet disclosed the power or battery capacity. The big news is the three-wheel steering system, developed to provide "a whole new level of connection between the rider and the vehicle."
In addition, the model integrates an adaptive sound system that adjusts the tone of the electric motor according to the driving, recreating a more immersive sensory experience—something that many electric vehicles are still striving to achieve.
The Tricera will be one of Yamaha's main attractions at the Japan Mobility Show, but it won't be alone. The brand will also showcase the Motoroid, a two-wheeled concept that bends and twists as if straight out of a science fiction movie, and the Proto BEV, an electric sports bike that anticipates the future of Yamaha's electric design and mobility.
Yamaha has also developed a steering system for the three-wheeler, aiming to achieve a "whole new level of unity" between the vehicle and the rider. The company has also equipped it with an adaptive audio device that modifies the tone of the electric powertrain.
