TATA MOTORS

Tata Sierra

Tata Motors has officially promoted the new SUV model Sierra, which was presented in pre-production form at the Auto Expo fair in India earlier this year.

While Jaguar and Land Rover struggle to survive, Tata, owner of both British brands, is going all out. Proof of this is that it has brought the classic Sierra name back to the market, dressing it in a robust and stylish SUV, with Land Rover technology, but costing the same as a Renault Kwid.

Created to compete directly with the Hyundai Creta, the leader in the compact SUV segment in India, the Tata Sierra will be sold in several versions with prices starting at 1,149,000 rupees.

The cabin is quite reminiscent of the Nissan Kicks due to the layout of the multimedia center combined with the digital instrument panel. But the Tata Sierra also has a third screen for driver entertainment. There is also ambient lighting and the option of light leather upholstery, as is preferred by Indians.

The interior has three screens - a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, along with a central and passenger-side screen (the latter two of 12.3 inches each). Other details in the cabin include a four-spoke steering wheel and ambient lighting. Here is the information that the trunk volume is 622 liters.

Top versions will get a premium audio system (VBL with 12 speakers), a panoramic roof, a wireless phone charger, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as ventilated front seats. The safety package will include 6 airbags, 360-degree cameras, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Level 2 ADAS.

Naturally aspirated, turbocharged, diesel...The engine range is quite simple, consisting solely of a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a naturally aspirated gasoline version of 106 hp, a turbocharged gasoline version of 160 hp, or a turbocharged diesel version of 118 hp. All versions can be equipped with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Tata plans 4x4 versions of the Sierra for the future, although for now the model will only have front-wheel drive. In addition, the SUV will have a 100% electric version, a hybrid version (not yet specified whether HEV or PHEV), and a CNG-powered variant. Sales will only begin in January of next year.

Based on Tata's ARGOS platform, the Sierra is available with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 78 kW/106 hp, a 1.5-liter turbo petrol with 118 kW/160 hp and a 1.5-liter turbo diesel with 87 kW/118 hp.

Transmission choices include a six-speed manual, a seven-speed dual-clutch and a six-speed automatic. All versions are front-wheel drive for now, but all-wheel drive is planned for 2027. The range will also include fully electric, hybrid and natural gas (CNG) options later.

Tata Sierra

The Tata Sierra is built on the new ARGOS modular platform, which has no relation whatsoever to the Fiat Argo. In reality, it stands for All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy, and Geometry Scalable architecture.

The Sierra is 4340 mm long, 1841 mm wide and 1715 mm high, the wheelbase is 2730 mm, while the ground clearance is 205 mm. Also, the wheels are from 17 to 19 inches, depending on the version.

Tata Motors has announced a starting price of $12,800 (equivalent) for the base Sierra in the Indian market.

Orders will open on December 16, with deliveries starting on January 16. Tata Motors says this model will be sold exclusively in India for now.
