Becekci's season-ending triumph
Aprilia rider Italian Marco Becekci won the final race of the season in the MotoGP championship, which was held today for the Valencia Grand Prix.
Becekci achieved his sixth career victory in the premier class with a time of 40:52.45
Second place in the Valencia GP was won by the Spanish Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez, who was 0.686 seconds behind the winner. Third was the Italian Pertamina Enduro VR46 rider Fabio di Gianantonio, who was 3.765 seconds behind Becekci.
First place in the general classification was won by Ducati rider Spanish Marc Marquez with 545 points. Marquez had already secured the title in the premier class of the MotoGP championship, but missed the race in Valencia as he is recovering from surgery on his right shoulder.
Second place in the overall drivers' standings went to Spaniard Alex Marquez of the BK8 Gresini Racing team with 467 points, while Beceki took third place with 353 points.
The first race of the next season will be held on March 1, 2026, for the Thai Grand Prix.
Marco Bezzecchi: “Two wins aren’t enough to be considered at Marc Márquez’s level”...Italian Marco Bezzecchi spoke to DAZN after winning the Valencian Community Grand Prix at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. Here are all his comments.
DAZN: A great win in a perfect year?
Bezzecchi: Yes, very happy. I’m very happy because it was a really great race. Yesterday, unfortunately, for several reasons, I couldn’t go as fast or fight for the podium. Today I was very motivated to try to be there fighting to finish at least on the podium in the last race, but winning makes me even happier. So, it’s great, and I thank the team. The race wasn’t easy at all, but it went well. So, very good.
DAZN: Did Fernández put pressure on you?
Bezzecchi: Yes, I managed to control the pace well at the beginning. Alex and I were very close, so I didn’t push too hard. As soon as I opened up a gap, I thought: “Okay, not too much,” because this track can wear out the tires drastically. At one point, I saw Raul on the pit lane board and tried to figure out how to manage the situation: I slowed down a bit, then accelerated a little more, slowed down again, accelerated... and I did that throughout the race. Only in the last two laps did I get worried, because I thought: "My God, he's going to catch me, he's going to catch me." So I accelerated as much as possible, and it was great, I had a lot of fun.
DAZN: You are Ducati's rivals for 2026.
Bezzecchi: Well, that's what we expect. But every year is a different story in the sport, so we can't take anything for granted. We have to start working hard immediately, try to stay focused and maintain this strong mentality. Be prepared for everything, try to keep improving. They start as favorites, clearly Marc and Álex, who finished first and second and are big favorites. Especially Marc, who won the championship with five races to spare; and that shows that two wins aren't enough to be considered at his level. So we have to work hard, but, hey, we achieved those two wins, and that's fantastic.
