Alfa Romeo Tonale 2026: features an even more striking front end, cutting-edge technology, and new features

Alfa Romeo has enhanced its compact SUV offering with the new Tonale, a model that reinforces its sporty and technological character without losing the essence of the Italian brand. Presented internationally in Pisa (a symbol of artistic, scientific, and technological excellence), the new Tonale incorporates aesthetic, technical, and functional improvements to offer a more exciting, intuitive, and connected driving experience.

A new Tonale that redefines Italian sportiness for the 21st century without sacrificing comfort or efficiency. The exterior design maintains the muscular lines and balanced proportions that define it, but, according to Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, the brand's Design Director, "it adds a stronger presence thanks to a wider track, new 19- and 20-inch wheel sets, and a reinterpretation of the classic Trilobo front end. The new concave emblem and black or aluminum accents reinforce the visual identity, inspired by iconic models such as the Giulia GTA and the 33 Stradale."

In the new grille, the license plate has been moved from the left side to a central position. This change was motivated by current pedestrian safety regulations in the event of a collision. Due to the wraparound shape of the front bumper, compliance with these regulations would require the installation of a license plate holder, which, according to Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, would compromise aesthetics, so it was decided to place it in the center.

Inside, the cabin combines high-quality materials such as red leather and two-tone Alcantara with technological details such as multicolored ambient lighting inspired by the Biscione leather (the snake in the Alfa Romeo logo). The center console has been redesigned for improved functionality, with a more modern and ergonomic gear selector.

The new color palette features the metallic shades of Rosso Brera, Verde Monza, and Giallo Ocra, complementing the already familiar colors, as well as the option of a black roof for greater personalization. Alfa Romeo considers color an emotional language and transforms it into a tool for driver expression.

The Tonale features two digital screens (a 12.3-inch instrument panel and a 10.25-inch Alfa Connect multimedia system) compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes over-the-air updates, integrated navigation, and a 470-watt Harman Kardon sound system.

The new rotary gear selector, located on the redesigned center console, combines modernity and functionality. It also allows gear changes using the iconic aluminum paddles on the steering wheel, ensuring maximum driving pleasure. The Alfa DNA selector allows you to adapt the car's character to your preferences and driving style. The brakes have a good, firm, and progressive feel.

The Tonale is offered in the Tonale (base), Sprint, Ti, and Veloce trim levels. The launch Sport Speciale edition represents the pinnacle of design and technology, with exclusive details, Alcantara seats, and complete customization.

With this update, the Alfa Romeo Tonale consolidates its position as a leading option in the C-SUV segment, combining a passion for design, technological innovation, mechanical efficiency, and intelligent sportiness, all with the unmistakable hallmarks of Italian style. Reservations are now open in Spain, but prices will be announced in November, although no increase from the current price is expected.

In terms of safety, it achieves a 5-star Euro NCAP rating thanks to a comprehensive suite of Level 2 driver assistance systems, including a 360° camera, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic braking, and more.

True to its sporty DNA, the new Tonale offers precise and agile handling thanks to the most direct steering in the segment, Brembo brakes, dual-valve electronic suspension, and optimized weight distribution. It also features Q4 all-wheel drive on plug-in hybrid versions.

Diesel remains...The engine offering includes 175 hp mild-hybrid gasoline engines, a 130 hp diesel engine, and Q4 plug-in hybrid versions with 190 or 270 hp, with electrified all-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission. These engines feature smooth transitions between combustion and electric power, complying with the Euro 6E-bis standard.

We drove the more powerful plug-in version and enjoyed driving this SUV thanks to its ease of entry and exit on winding roads on a route through Tuscany, Italy. This advantage offsets the stiffness of the suspension on uneven surfaces. On the other hand, ride comfort is improved on highways.

The top speed is 195 km/h (122 mph), and it can travel in electric mode up to 135 km/h (83 mph). It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.6 seconds. The electric range is 60 kilometers (37 miles), and it can be recharged in 2.5 hours using a 7.4 kW charger.

The Tonale is offered in the Tonale (base), Sprint, Ti, and Veloce trim levels. The launch Sport Speciale edition represents the pinnacle of design and technology, with exclusive details, Alcantara seats, and complete customization.
