HKS Toyota GR Yaris

Japanese tuner HKS has prepared a package of aerodynamic components for the Toyota GR Yaris.

There are few exciting hatchbacks like the Toyota GR Yaris these days. With its powerful turbocharged three-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive, it is a true rally car for the road. Since the GR Yaris hit the market five years ago, the market has been full of upgrades, and while many have opted to extract more power from the engine, HKS has focused on aerodynamics in its latest package.

Known as the Type-S Gen 2 kit, the package not only makes the GR Yaris look more aggressive, but also improves its aerodynamics. For owners who want to use their cars on the track, these upgrades could be perfect.

The changes start at the front, where there is a pronounced splitter made primarily of GFRP, which incorporates side skirts and gives the car a more aggressive look, while also increasing downforce on the front axle.

HKS has done magic with the Yaris' flanks, developing new side skirts also made from GFRP, and at the rear there's a carbon wing with swan-neck struts to maximise downforce. On both edges of the rear bumper are aerodynamic inserts, which are complemented by carbon winglets.

These additions are not just for aesthetics, they also significantly contribute to improving aerodynamics. Exact figures for downforce have not been released. The GR Yaris with the full package is already competing in the Japanese Super Endurance Series ST-2 class, which is definitely the best real-world test.

Whether the package will be available in international markets is not yet known.
