Tata Harrier.ev

India's Tata Motors is now offering the Harrier.ev, an electric version of its already popular Harrier SUV.

Despite the electric drivetrain, the exterior is not much different from its gasoline-powered sibling, which was launched in 2019 and refreshed in 2023. The differences come down to a few details specific to electric vehicles. These include a closed grille, trimmed bumpers, unique 19-inch wheels and badging.

The car stands out with a 14.5-inch Samsung Neo screen, but there is also a camera system, a JBL audio system with 10 speakers, a panoramic sunroof, an electric tailgate, a digital rearview mirror and advanced driver assistance systems Level 2 (ADAS).

Tata's new platform (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer) enables more connected functions and supports OTA updates.

The Harrier.ev will be available in three trim levels: Adventure, Fearless and Empowered. In addition, there is a Stealth edition with a typical dark specification that has proven quite popular with Indian buyers, according to Carscoops.

The car is offered with one or two electric motors. In the all-wheel drive variant, the front motor has 116 kW/158 hp, while the rear motor contributes 175 kW/238 hp, resulting in a combined torque of 504 Nm. This makes it the most powerful Harrier yet, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. The powertrain includes six driving modes: Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud/Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom.

Two battery packs are available, with capacities of 65 kWh and 75 kWh. The larger battery gives the rear-wheel drive variant a range of 627 km according to the MIDC standard, although Tata’s internal tests suggest a more realistic range of 480 to 505 km.

A 120 kW DC fast charger can charge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in just 25 minutes.

Tata will open pre-orders for the Harrier.ev in India on July 2, with prices starting at (recalculated) $25,100.
