Biodiesel...Biodiesel is obtained from recycled vegetable oils or animal fats. Its main advantage is its low environmental impact.
It reduces CO₂ emissions.
It can freeze at low temperatures, which is why it is often mixed with conventional diesel.
Not all engines are designed to use it without mixing. It is essential to consult the manufacturer.
B7, B10, and B20 Diesel...This classification indicates the percentage of biodiesel contained in the fuel:
B7: contains 7% biodiesel, suitable for most modern cars.
B10 and B20: with 10% or 20% biodiesel, respectively. Their use is more oriented toward commercial fleets or adapted industrial vehicles.
These fuels are designed to offer a more sustainable alternative without sacrificing good performance.
1D, 2D, and 4D Diesel...A lesser-known classification in Spain, but relevant in cold regions. It is based on the density and behavior of diesel at extreme temperatures:
1D: lighter, ideal for cold climates.
2D: for temperate climate conditions.
4D: more viscous, used primarily in industrial machinery.
Diesel B (Gasóleo B)...Also known as red diesel, it is intended exclusively for agricultural, industrial, and fishing use.
Not suitable for conventional vehicles.
It is cheaper, but has a formulation with fewer additives.
Its improper use in private cars carries significant penalties.
R33 Diesel...This is one of the newest fuels, also known as blue diesel. It is composed of recycled waste and synthetic paraffins, with a clear focus on sustainability.
It reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 20%.
Compatible with modern diesel engines without the need for modifications.
It is not yet widely available, but is gradually gaining ground.
What type of diesel should you use in your car?...Choosing the right type of diesel has a direct impact on engine performance, durability, and pollutant emissions. To avoid mistakes:
Always consult the manufacturer's manual. It clearly indicates which type of fuel is compatible.
If you have a modern car and are looking for greater efficiency, A+ diesel may offer better performance.
Avoid refueling with B diesel if your vehicle is not approved for it.
For fleets, commercial vehicles, or intensive uses, consider fuels with a higher proportion of biodiesel if your engine is suitable.
