AUTONEWS

New Lada announced for June 18

The premiere date of the new crossover from Russian AvtoVAZ (Lada) has been announced. The long-awaited novelty will be presented to the public on June 18, as part of the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg.

Serial production of this vehicle based on the Lada Vesti should begin in the first half of next year.

The project is currently known as the B Cross (pictured), with the car already shown to President Vladimir Putin in January during his visit to Togliatti. In June, Lada will announce the name of the vehicle, and will also reveal the interior of the vehicle.

Russian media mention that the car will receive a modified 1.8-liter gasoline engine, with 135 hp and 180 Nm. However, the possibility of installing an engine from an eastern partner should not be ruled out. But the model will not have all-wheel drive.

As for the name, AvtoVAZ earlier this year protected the name Lada Tigris, according to the database of the Federal Institute for Industrial Property (FIPS). It remains to be seen whether this car will bear that name. Before that, AvtoVAZ also registered the names Mira, Avira, Sfera, Retiva, Altra and others.

Incidentally, in the next five years, AvtoVAZ will present a few more crossovers of different classes, including the D, as well as a seven-seat minivan.
