AUTOMOBILI MIGNATTA

Mignatta Rina

New Italian brand Automobili Mignatta has unveiled its first creation. It’s the Rina, a lightweight two-seater speedster that aims to combine cutting-edge technology with the timeless appeal of 1960s sports cars.

The 441cm-long Rina will be based on a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis and will come with carbon-fibre body panels as standard. The car has a classic speedster profile, complete with a long bonnet, pronounced arches and a seductive rear end. There are also tinted headlights, compact wing mirrors, a prominent rear spoiler and circular LED taillights.

Automobili Mignatta has envisioned a naturally aspirated V8 engine mounted behind the passenger compartment for the Rina. It will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission, rear-wheel drive and a limited-slip differential to deliver an old-school driving experience.

Ford Coyote engine...Like so many of those Italian sports car icons, Automobili Mignatta is making use of a dependable, available, powerful V8: the Ford Coyote 5.0. It doesn’t say as much, of course, but it mentions Ti-VCT variable cam timing, which is Ford’s acronym. Mignatta also talks about plasma arc sprayed cylinder liners (introduced with the 2018 Mustang update) and forged aluminium pistons (first in the old Boss 302) so, yeah, it’s that engine. No bad thing, of course - the Coyote is perfect for this sort of sports car. It was going in the TVR once upon a time, if you remember that…There is also a Brembo braking system with 360 mm discs at the front and 350 mm at the rear.

Performance figures are not yet available, but with a curb weight of just 1,000 kg, it should have a pretty good power-to-weight ratio.

Production will be limited to just 30 hand-built units per year, underscoring the exclusivity of this Italian creation.
