Bovensiepen Zagato

Another interesting car is catching the eye at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy. Called the Bovensiepen Zagato, it’s a sports coupe based on the BMW M4 and comes with a beautiful body designed by Zagato.

Andreas and Florian Bovensiepen, sons of the late Alpine founder Burkard Bovensiepen, have founded a new company that bears the family name. Not surprisingly, it’s also based in Bühlau.

The Bovensiepen Zagato features a modified body with the characteristic Zagato double-bubble roof. Gone are the BMW’s striking “kidneys,” replaced by a more subtle stainless steel grille. The black honeycomb pattern is repeated on the large air intakes. While the M4’s silhouette is instantly recognizable, the body panels are all-new, most of them made from carbon fiber. Even the trunk lid has been reshaped to accommodate a subtle “ducktail” spoiler.

According to BMWblog, the ability to roll down the rear side windows and the absence of B-pillars suggest that the Bovensipen Zagato is actually based on the M4 convertible (G83), but with a fixed roof.

While the exterior distances itself from its BMW roots, the cabin still exudes the M4. But while the interior is largely borrowed, Bovensipen spends over 130 hours on each car to install the full Lavalina leather. Customers can choose from dozens of leather colors and pair them with the bodywork. In total, the vehicle takes 250 hours to build, and includes more than 400 custom parts.

The Bovensipen Zagato uses a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, likely the twin-turbo S58 from the M4. However, here it has been modified to produce 611 hp. Torque is increased by 50 Nm to 700 Nm compared to the standard model. Since the donor car is likely a G83, the new coupe comes exclusively with all-wheel drive, and is only available with an automatic transmission.

In terms of performance, the 1,875-kg car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the G83. Top speed is over 300 km/h.

The Bovensiepen Zagato also has custom-made 20-inch forged wheels, Bilstein shock absorbers, and an Akrapovič titanium exhaust system.

Bovensiepen will announce pricing details and production figures in the fourth quarter of this year. It is expected to be significantly more expensive than the M4 convertible, which starts at 112,700 euros in Germany. Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
