TOYOTA

WRC Rally Islas Canarias 2025 - Toyota hop, Hyundai trop!

The WRC Rally Islas Canarias 2025, the fourth round of the FIA World Rally Championship, is behind us. The Toyota factory team practically blew away the competition, recording a four-time victory. At the finish line of the rally, the top step of the podium was taken by the fantastic, 24-year-old Kalle Rovanpera.

The talented Finn, a two-time world champion, won 15 out of 18 special stages held in the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, without letting go of the lead from the first to the last meter of the competition. He carries the maximum 35 points from Spain, and he recorded the victory with a lead of 53.5 seconds over the eight-time world rally champion, Sebastien Ogier (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1).

Ogier failed to find the right rhythm to answer the "crazy little Finn" on the asphalt special stages of the Canary Islands, as he jokingly called him. Elfyn Evans (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) completed the Toyota podium, taking third place, ahead of another teammate, Takamoto Katusta.

Hyundai will certainly want to forget this rally as soon as possible. Fifth place for Adrien Fourmax (Hyundai i20 N Rally1), sixth place for Ott Tanaka (Hyundai i20 N Rally1) and seventh place for reigning world champion Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 N Rally1) are certainly not a satisfactory result. Hyundai could not keep up with Toyota in this competition, and the biggest problem for the Hyundai team was with incorrectly adjusted differentials, which were not allowed to be changed later in the competition. Both Fords ended the rally by running off the track. Gregoire Munster (Ford Puma Rally1) managed to get back on track and finish the rally in 11th place.

The fastest competitor in the WRC2 competition was Yohan Rossel in the Citroën C3 Rally2.
