PEUGEOT

The new Peugeot e-208 GTi marks a long-awaited return to the French brand's sporting essence, representing the first GTi model since the Peugeot 308's departure in 2021 and also the brand's first electric sports car.
In a bold move that reconnects the brand with its roots and history in motorsport, Peugeot has announced that the reintroduction of the GTi logo will happen as soon as possible.
Speaking to the media, according to Autocar magazine, Favey said: “I am in a position to confirm that we will reintroduce the GTi on the e-208 as soon as possible. We have taken the decision that the Peugeot GTi will be reintroduced”.
These words reflect not only a tribute to the past, but also a clear intention to innovate, while maintaining the DNA that has always made the 208 a car that delights both those passionate about sportiness and those seeking technology and modernity.
Designed to combine performance and sustainability, the new e-208 GTi should use the same powertrain as the Abarth 600e, sharing the e-CMP platform that serves as the basis for the e-208.
This powertrain features a 237 horsepower engine, positioned at the front, coupled with a Torsen limited-slip differential, features that adjust the vehicle to robust and agile performance.
Weighing approximately 1,625 kg, the model has the potential to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 6.2 seconds, and it is speculated that a lighter version with a lower body could reduce this time to less than 6 seconds.
Favey also stressed that, although the return of the GTi in the e-208 is the first step, the expansion of the GTi line or the introduction of sports models with combustion engines will depend on customer feedback.
“We are definitely listening to their input, or what our customers will say,” he added. The Autocar website made a projection where it imagines what the new Peugeot e-208 GTi will look like, which could well appear here…
This openness to future iterations indicates that, if the success of the e-208 GTi is proven, we could see other versions under the emblematic GTi badge, reaffirming Peugeot's sporting tradition as the electric future. Will it be a “te cuidate ID. Golf GTI”?
The ingredients of this new Peugeot e-208 GTi should be the same as those we already know from the Abarth 600e or Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce.
Which means the e-208 GTI should have an electric motor with 240 hp or 280 hp, a limited-slip differential and a “tailor-made” chassis.
We know that the fact that this Peugeot GTI is electric may be disappointing for many, but the Italians have convinced us that they are genuinely exciting machines to drive: In terms of performance, the Abarth 600e accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in around six seconds. However, as the e-208 is more compact and can be lighter — the 600e weighs 1,625 kg — it is possible that this new Peugeot e-208 GTi will be able to improve this mark.
