AUTONEWS

New Alfa Romeo Stelvio appears in the cold of Sweden

Alfa Romeo showed the new Stelvio, albeit all camouflaged, in tests in difficult weather conditions, in this case, in the cold of Sweden.

With black and red camouflage, the Italian brand revealed little, as it even chose to cover the wheels.

With support for the STLA Large platform, the new Stelvio, which will be announced later this year, will be able to be equipped with both combustion and electric engines.

Although the reveal is scheduled for this year, sales of the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio will only begin in 2026. The new generation of the Italian brand's flagship SUV will adopt a new look and will be available with hybrid and electric engines.

Jean Philippe Imparato announced last year that a Quadrifoglio version with almost a thousand horsepower under the bonnet could be launched, promising an exciting experience for high-performance enthusiasts.

The future Stelvio will continue to be produced at the Stellantis plant in Cassino, which currently manufactures the current generation. This continuity in the production location guarantees the "Made in Italy" quality.

Alfa Romeo is testing the next-generation Stelvio in Arjeplog, Sweden. In the images you can see the prototype of the SUV, still camouflaged, which will debut at the end of this year. Commercial launch is scheduled for 2026, and production will take place in Cassino, Italy. The more than 1000 hours of tests carried out in temperatures of up to minus 30 degrees serve to measure the D-SUV's capacity for lateral and longitudinal acceleration in low grip situations. In the next phase, the Stelvio will be tested in temperate climates for a further 1500 hours, mainly on circuits including Balocco in Italy.

The second generation Stelvio will have split headlights and LEDs, with the upper area seeming to refer to the smaller Junior. Viewed from the side, the new model looks more muscular and has a more coupe-like shape. The prototype seems to indicate a longer model than the current one, especially in the wheelbase. It has three-spoke wheels and at the end of the roof there is a spoiler. At the rear, the highlight is the LED lights across the entire width with a triangular shape.

The new Stelvio will evolve from the new STLA Large platform, the same one already used in the Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoneer S. As for engines, there will be hybrid and electric options. The CEO of the Italian brand hinted that there will be space for a 100% electric Quadrifoglio variant capable of delivering 1000 hp.

There is also speculation that there could be a gasoline variant with the same twin-turbo inline-six engine as the Charger. The Stelvio II will feature a new electronic architecture that allows for “over the air” updates and includes more driving aids. Unofficial spy photos show that the central screen will be significantly larger compared to the previous model.
