Ligier JS50: the new microcar from the legendary Formula 1 brand
The renewed Ligier JS50 light quadricycle - for driving without a license - also debuts electric and Euro 5 Plus diesel engines, more efficient and less polluting
The legendary Formula 1 and Le Mans brand, Ligier, has faced the 21st century by reconverting itself into a leader in the microcar sector. And, within them, in the "Premium" sector for equipment and performance. Its products are at the forefront of many European markets, as they offer a form of mobility for the youngest with their light quadricycles; and also to companies and public services with their commercial versions for Last Mile delivery in large cities.
Although the JS50 model has been completely revised in its 'Model Year 2025' version, we must focus on its engine, which represents a great step forward. There are two options on offer: an electric one (with an 8 or 12 kW engine, capable of providing a range of 192 km) and a 500 cm3 diesel combustion engine. The latter has been completely redesigned and easily adapted to the Euro 5 Plus pollution standards.
The new single-cylinder engine comes from its usual supplier (Greaves) but has new engineering and - above all - new Delphi electronic management. Called REVO D+, it has drastically reduced its pollution rate and, in addition, its diesel consumption to just 3 litres per 100, extending its range to 583 km. It is also less noisy and has fewer vibrations than its predecessor.

Weighing just 420 kilos, with wheels up to 16" and four disc brakes, it is an agile and versatile vehicle. It has a 471-litre boot and seats for two occupants, as well as many safety and comfort features, such as power steering, air conditioning, a rear-view camera and LED headlights. The interior is on a par with any other car, with a 10" touchscreen, full connectivity, wireless charger, sound system...
Together with its younger brother, the Myli, the JS50 represents the quintessential urban microcar aimed at a young audience that does not yet have a driving licence. Its speed is therefore limited to 45 km/h. But it does not lose the comfort and style of a car. It has a very rigid aluminium chassis and a completely redesigned body to suit modern tastes, like a micro-SUV.
