Mazda MX-5 Miata gets a makeover for 2026
Few cars evoke emotions like the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Light, agile and pure driving pleasure, the Japanese sports car has always been synonymous with simplicity.
Now, with electrification dominating the automotive sector, the Miata is preparing to change. However, its essence will be preserved: the new generation, scheduled for 2026, will feature electrification, but will maintain the perfect union between tradition and innovation that defines the model.
Electrification has become essential in the automotive sector, but for Mazda, it also represents an opportunity to improve its vehicles — including the MX-5.
Although the technical details of the future generation are not yet official, our exclusive projection anticipates how this new evolution may present itself.
The most reliable rumors indicate that the design will follow the current visual identity, appreciated by enthusiasts for over a decade. However, the model will feature electrified engines, possibly adopting a 48-volt mild hybrid system (MHEV). This solution should maintain the car's sporty performance without compromising its low weight and legendary balance.
The goal is clear: to reduce emissions and meet increasingly stringent regulations without sacrificing driving fun. This means that fundamental elements such as rear-wheel drive and weight balance will be maintained.
In terms of design, our exclusive rendering previews what the Mazda MX-5 NE will look like. According to rumors close to the brand — not yet officially confirmed —, the body lines will be sharper and more aggressive, inspired by the "Vision Study Model" concept presented in 2022.
The sides may gain more sculpted creases, while the front should feature even thinner headlights and a redesigned grille, following the Kodo Design philosophy. Now, we just have to wait until 2026 to see how the iconic roadster will reinvent itself for the future, without losing its essence.
