RALLY DAKAR 2025

Daniel Sanders acumula 4 victorias en 5 días del Dakar 2025

Daniel Sanders beats Tosha Schareina to win his fourth stage at Dakar 2025

Australian Daniel Sanders has claimed his fourth victory in five days at the Dakar 2025 after beating Spaniard Tosha Schareina by just 15 seconds in the fourth stage, whom he now leads by 13 minutes in the general classification. With this victory, Sanders equals the four wins of the American Ricky Brabec in 2021, the record in a single edition since the Dakar has been held in Asia.

The top five in the general classification, who seem to be the clear candidates to fight for the final victory, faced today's stage in two very different ways. The Americans Ricky Brabec and Skyler Howes and the Botswana native Ross Branch started just behind Lorenzo Santolino, who made history for Spain by winning yesterday; while the Australian Daniel Sanders and the Spaniard Tosha Schareina started far behind and could push hard using the ruts of more than 15 predecessors. Brabec was quick to catch Santolino and the two began to take time bonuses, with Howes and Branch joining them midway through the stage to form a quartet from which Santolino would be left out after losing more than a quarter of an hour after the halfway point of the stage... although they would eventually be returned to him at the finish.

Meanwhile, Schareina was pushing hard until he caught Sanders, who had started two minutes before him. However, the Spaniard did not set the best split at any of the first waypoints; except for the second one - where Sanders was still leading - they were all for Mason Klein, who had started much further back and was flying with his Kove until conjunctivitis forced him to slow down.

Therefore, Schareina stayed in front and even managed to drop Sanders, but the Australian reacted and joined him again. If they had entered together, the Spaniard would have won, but he opted to stop for a couple of minutes at the end and give up the stage so as not to open the track tomorrow.

In this way, Daniel Sanders took the victory by stopping the clock at 5 hours, 10 minutes and 33 seconds, leading Tosha Schareina by 15 seconds in the 415-kilometre special between Al Henakiyah and AlUla, leaving Nacho Cornejo more than seven minutes behind, who also took advantage of his rear position at the start to achieve his best partial result with Hero.

Right behind him was the Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren, followed by the Portuguese Rui Gonçalves and the Austrian Tobias Ebster, winner of Rally2. Seventh was the South African Bradley Cox, who at times seemed to be opting for the partial victory, with Lorenzo Santolino eighth after making up for lost time. The top 10 was rounded out by two veterans, Chilean Pablo Quintanilla and Slovakian Stefan Svitko, with Edgar Canet eleventh.

Among the candidates for the final victory, Ross Branch finished 13th -just behind Luciano Benavides- more than 19 minutes behind Sanders; with Ricky Brabec and Skyler Howes almost 20 behind, in 15th and 17th position, respectively. The three will have to push hard tomorrow to get closer to Sanders in the general classification.
