DAKAR 2025

Macík wins 5th stage of the Dakar trucks and extends his lead in the overall standings

Martin Macík once again gave his rivals no chance, winning the fifth special stage of the 2025 Dakar in the trucks and increasing the large lead he already had in the overall standings. Ales Loprais had new mechanical problems and finished in 11th place.

The fifth special stage of the Dakar, on Thursday (9/01), completed another marathon in the world's biggest rally and also saw Martin Macík increase his lead over his competitors in the trucks. Alongside navigator Frantisek Tomasek and mechanic David Svanda, the driver took the lead after dominating the race for 5h01min53.

From the first kilometers, Macík controlled the pace and led the pack in the category, always with a good margin over his main rivals. In addition, he saw his rival Ales Loprais face new mechanical problems and lose a lot of time halfway through the stage.

The second position at the finish line in Ha'il went to Kees Koolen, Macík's teammate. The podium was completed by Mitchel van den Brink, but almost 40 minutes behind the winner.

Anja van Loon came in fourth place, followed by Martin Soltys, Teruhito Sugawara, Martin van den Brink, Richard De Groot, Tomas Vratny and William De Groot, completing the top 10. Loprais finished in 11th place.

In the overall standings, Macík remains comfortable, with an aggregate time of 31h10min49s. Mitchel van den Brink is now in second place, but 1h56min behind the leader. Loprais is third, followed by Soltys and Martin van den Brink, completing the list of the top five.

The Dakar rests this Friday (10) and returns on Saturday (11), when it heads towards Al Duwadimi. Competitors will face a long timed stretch of 605 km, in addition to another 224 km of travel.
