DAKAR 2025
Daniel Sanders pushes hard and the first part of the '48H Time Trial' fragments the Dakar 2025
The Australian Daniel Sanders will go to sleep in the provisional first position of the '48 Hour Time Trial' stage, so tomorrow he will try to get his third victory in three stages of the Dakar 2025. However, he will have to keep an eye on the American Ricky Brabec, the Spaniard Tosha Schareina and the Botswana native Ross Branch. Behind them - and the American Skyler Howes - the general classification is already beginning to fragment.
The reversal of the start for the RallyGP drivers led to the progressive formation of a peloton at the front, making almost all of them catch bonuses. Among the big favourites, the Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren was the first to reach the lead until he was overtaken by a large group in which Tosha Schareina was and to which Ross Branch, Ricky Brabec and Daniel Sanders were added shortly afterwards, with Skyler Howes doing so later.
That meant that the gaps were set in twos depending on the start, with most taking a similar time bonus. However, it was Van Beveren himself who went on the attack in the final part of the day and broke away from the rest of the field to stop the rest from accumulating further seconds of bonus, taking Schareina with him first and then Howes.
When the gong sounded indicating that the pilots had to stop at the next bivouac before resuming tomorrow, both had to make a mistake that cost them between five and seven minutes, with Schareina being the first to reach bivouac F after flying in the final kilometres of the day. They will sleep there until
That allowed him to cut some time on Daniel Sanders, who stopped after covering 617 kilometres in a time of 7 hours, 41 minutes and 56 seconds; almost three minutes (2:57) had to be deducted from him for the bonuses. With Ricky Brabec taking 40 seconds more (1:57 bonus), Ross Branch at 3:51 (with 3:27) and Tosha Schareina virtual third ahead of the Botswana native, as he has invested 5:09 more than Sanders, but 4:56 must be subtracted.
Virtual fifth would be Skyler Howes, with Adrien Van Beveren sixth after the 6:50 bonus; if he finished the stage, which would allow him to overtake Michael Docherty, Edgar Canet, Pablo Quintanilla and Luciano Benavides. The final results show the times already 'corrected' after the seconds recovered for opening the track.
