TESLA

Model Y Juniper facelift snapped with peeking light bar as its new tilting display may sport the highest pixel density on a Tesla

Tesla already uses a higher resolution display on the Cybertruck, and its QHD pixel count will reportedly bless the new screen of the upcoming Model Y Juniper facelift, too.

The Tesla Model Y Juniper refresh launch is imminent, with a January release date very likely as the facelifted Model Y enters mass production at Giga Shanghai.

There have also been numerous sightings of the Juniper refresh in the past few months, both abroad in China and Europe, or in the US. The last one has happened in California, with a Model Y Juniper test mule snapped testing on the highway with a third red light peeking through the camouflage tarp at the back, indicating that a rear light bar is in store as a design upgrade indeed.

According to insider sources from Tesla's Gigafactory in Shanghai, where trial production had already started, the 2025 Model Y Juniper facelift will include several new design elements besides the light bar running across the rear. For starters, there will reportedly be one at the front, too, with "penetrating LED daytime running lights" above a frontal look that eschews a needless grille to escape the orthodox SUV feel.

Not only that, but the more minimalistic interior that is supposed to be styled after the changes in the Model 3 Highland, ambient lighting and all, will now carry a center console screen that swivels left and right similar to what is available on the Model X or Model S.

The Model Y Juniper display is supposed to retain the same 15.4-inch diagonal, but come with a higher, 2.5K resolution similar to the 2650x1440p panel on the Cybertruck, too. These Juniper display specs would return 195 pixels per inch count, making it the screen with the highest pixel density on a production Tesla.

The source also reiterates that Tesla will upgrade not only the Model Y Juniper facelift's battery capacity specs to 95 kWh, but that power will be sent to Tesla's upcoming 4th-gen electric motors. They are supposed to be more compact and efficient, for an overall Juniper refresh range increase compared to the current version.

While the rear light bar has been tipped for a while, the front bar with daytime LED running lights above a grille-less design, as well as the tilting central display are new nuggets of info about the refresh. The Model Y Juniper facelift, however, better have lower production costs than the current Model Y generation, as Tesla may lose the federal tax credit that lowered its price significantly in the US.

Tesla would have to either compensate by cutting manufacturing expenses, or effectively cite a higher Model Y Juniper price than it does now, which may put a damper on potential demand for its bestselling vehicle.
