Jorge Martín en el podio del Gran Premio de Tailandia

Jorge Martín: “Pecco has to take more risks than me and it worked out well for him”

The Spaniard Jorge Martín has spoken on DAZN after finishing second in the Thailand Grand Prix race held at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram.

Podium with many scares...Yes, a complicated race. I got off to a very good start and tried to get into my rhythm, but right from the start I saw that I didn't have, at all, the sensations that I had in the warm-up. In the warm-up I was going very well: I had worked a lot on that condition of little water, almost dry; and of course, there was a lot more water. Likewise, I was already prepared for a situation of more water, but we were too free. I think that we didn't give the key in the controls and, in the end, in the water you depend a lot on how the bike works. Today I tried my best, and both Marc and Pecco had a little more. I tried to hold on with them, but it was difficult and, when Marc fell, I had the same scare behind me, identical; But, seeing him, I think I was able to anticipate a little and I saved it. And from there, I said: ‘ok, that’s it, that’s it, finish it’. I also had Miller recovering a little, so I had to push. I minimized the risks as much as I could, I had many scares, maybe more than ten, but I was able to finish, which was the objective today. I think it was the most difficult test of the year. In the wet, being able to finish second again helps me to have more confidence for Malaysia.

You managed better than other times...I had quite a few doubts, not in my strategy for the race, but more in how we were going to start the race: I saw that in Moto2 they had doubts about the tyre, the Moto3s had doubts about the tyre; then I was a bit afraid that Pecco would go out on slicks and I would be wet or vice versa. It’s the only thing I couldn’t control, so I was a bit scared; but it rained, so there was no option. I tried to win, Pecco has to take a bit more risks than me, he did it and it worked out well for him. We'll see in Malaysia.

You feel strengthened...I feel that it's getting closer and closer, I feel that if my head is going 3000 per hour normally, now that I'm playing for the championship, even more so. Above all, I want to focus on myself, I know that it's going to be very difficult to beat Pecco in Malaysia. It's going to be a huge challenge because it's his track, so it's going to be very difficult. I'm also good at it: last year I finished ahead in the Sprint, in the race we finished third and fourth, so we're not that far away. Strengthened and confident for the end of the championship.

Pecco Bagnaia ha ganado en mojado en Tailandia ante Jorge Martín

Italian Pecco Bagnaia(on the bike in front) has masterfully won a very difficult wet race in Thailand to close the gap by five points on Spaniard Jorge Martín - second after the fall of his compatriot Marc Márquez - and keep the fight for the 2024 MotoGP title very much alive. Spaniard Pedro Acosta has completed the podium after a beautiful comeback.
