NOVO VW CONSTELLATION 20.480 SUPERA EM POTÊNCIA

VW Constellation 20.480 4x2: the newest extra-heavy tractor unit in the line with cutting-edge technology

Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus is further strengthening its extra-heavy truck portfolio and is now launching the Constellation 20.480 4x2, prepared to transport up to 56 tons. It is a tractor unit tailored for medium and long-distance road applications with large-volume loads. The new member of the family is an example of the “you don’t want less, you don’t need more” concept, which established the brand and led it to market leadership 20 years ago.

With a 56-ton gross vehicle weight (GCW), the model is positioned in an intermediate segment in the current offering: previously, the options were 45 or, in the 6x2 version, 58.5 tons. To increase capacity in the manufacturer's extra-heavy 4x2 portfolio, one component makes all the difference: the 13-liter D26 engine, with 480 hp and 2,400 Nm of torque, the most powerful in its category.

Combining strength and economy, it also features the 12-speed V-Tronic automated transmission and a high level of onboard electronics, with a choice of driving modes and predictive technology for gear changes, aiming for greater operational efficiency and consumption. All as standard. It is also equipped with a 428 hp auxiliary engine brake to ensure even greater performance.

With a 3,600 mm wheelbase, the entire chassis assembly is reinforced and ready to face the most severe applications. All components have been optimized for greater load capacity, with a new side member, cross members and fifth wheel to facilitate the coupling of implements. Two 470-liter aluminum fuel tanks make up the vehicle to streamline operational logistics, ensuring the greatest autonomy in the category.

Among the standard configurations, the full air suspension with four air pockets will also add convenience and comfort for the driver, in addition to improving cargo safety. The model already comes with an intelligent system for reading the load per axle and with the possibility of redistribution in order to balance the weight on each axle. Additionally, the driver has the option of programming the air pockets to adjust the height of the implement during loading or unloading of the vehicle. All done remotely from inside the cabin.

Cutting-edge technology... This new Constellation debuts on the market with cutting-edge technologies, in line with the extra-heavy demand of Brazilian transporters. Its cabin comes standard with a pneumatic seat with integrated belt, multifunctional steering wheel and many adjustments to suit each driver's profile. It also has the most modern digital panel in the VWCO family and multimedia center as an option, combining the advantages of the Prime and Highline packages.

With a performance that allows for up to 8% fuel savings, the model adds a lot of on-board technology, which also benefits operational safety. The Predictive Shifting system, for example, combines data from the vehicle's gear system with GPS information to make the gearshift strategy more efficient and economical.

The inclination sensor adjusts the rotation and also improves fuel consumption, as does Eco-roll, which takes advantage of inertia when possible and places the transmission in neutral in a safe and controlled manner. The maneuver mode, in turn, controls the speed and does not allow gear changes, thus providing a smooth and safe start. Kick down reduces the gear when the driver presses the accelerator hard, increasing the engine speed for better performance for safe overtaking. And this Constellation also comes with the hill start assist, as standard, to make everyday driving easier.
