Hyundai RN24: the brand's most sporty electric model that rumbles as if it had a thermal engine
The RN24 is not yet a vehicle that Hyundai plans to sell, as it is just a “laboratory car” that serves to develop new solutions and technologies for future models. But, judging by the images, there is no shortage of arguments to entertain even the most demanding drivers.
Not all vehicles proposed by manufacturers are rational cars, intended only to transport customers from point A to point B, as they also aim to give pleasure to those who drive them, transmitting emotion and, sometimes, sensations similar to competition cars. . Hyundai appears to be preparing its latest proposal of this type, which it calls RN24.
With the presentation of the Hyundai 5 N, the electric sports car in the range that, in addition to more power and more acrobatic behavior, also offers the ability to roar as if it had a combustion engine, the South Korean manufacturer is ready to surprise again. However, this time, it is not yet known what the brand is preparing, as only one prototype is known, presented as a “laboratory car” internally called RN24.
Taking advantage of the versatility advantages of having a tubular chassis, associated with a roll-bar similar to a competition car, the RN24 is intended to test the basis for a small, sporty, electric model. Despite its compact appearance, which from the photos does not appear to exceed 4 meters by much, the curious model/laboratory manages to include the same battery pack as the Hyundai 5 N, with 84 kWh of gross capacity. The two engines, one per axle, maintain the power of the 5 N, that is, 650 hp, the result of mounting an engine with 238 hp at the front and 412 hp at the rear. An impressive value for a battery-powered vehicle weighing just 1905 kg.
Associated with these mechanics and the 84 kWh battery, the RN24 adopts suspensions derived from WRC models, in the case of Hyundai, the i20 Rally Car, the same one that shines in the World Rally Championship. In addition to the competition suspensions, this RN24 has a Rally Mode, which reproduces the torque control on the WRC's i20 N engine, to improve handling and optimize the fun for those behind the wheel. And even the rumble of the Hyundai 5 N has been improved, with Manfred Harrer, Executive Vice President of Innovation and High Performance assuring that “the RN24 is proof of our bold ambitions for the future”.
