AUTONEWS
South African company Berg Offroad has the latest option for those who love camping but don't want to give up comfort and practicality. The small CX3 trailer may seem tiny at first, but it has compartments that expand in several directions, creating a tiny home equipped with a kitchen, bathroom and queen-size bed.
The new model is the sibling of another one announced earlier this year by the company. The CX6 has the same premise: it's a small trailer that unfolds to accommodate up to six people. Although the CX3 accommodates half that amount, making it a better option for camping couples with a child, it is larger and expands three-dimensionally in a different way than its predecessor.
The rear also expands into a queen-size bed. In addition, the side can be opened to add an extra single bed.
A small pull-out table in the three-bed room allows campers to enjoy their breakfast.
Outside, a compartment next to the bedroom folds out to create space for an outdoor kitchen with countertops, shelves and an optional microwave.
A large drawer slides out with a two-burner stove and a full sink system connected to the 150 L fresh water tank.
The CX3’s features don’t stop there... In addition to the equipped kitchen, the CX3 offers a full refrigeration system and the option to add drawer refrigerators in the kitchen or inside the camper. The entire cooling system is powered by a 1,200W inverter, solar controller and is backed by one or two 108Ah lithium batteries, with solar panel support.
The full bathroom can be kept open for panoramic showers or closed for privacy. Other practical features include a retractable hose, water heater, 180-degree awning over the kitchen and a set of compact pots and pans and cooking accessories.
Constructed from steel, aluminium and fibreglass, the CX3 is ready to tackle tough terrain, but with options to reduce weight by using carbon fibre panels. Typically, the expansive walls are made of canvas, but in this launch version, the trailer features walls made of a more robust material.
How much does it cost?...The new Berg Offroad trailer is slightly cheaper than its predecessor, costing around 549,950 South African rand.
