GINETTA  AKULA

GINETTA AKULA: NÃO É UM CARRO ESPORTIVO BONITO, MAS SEU MOTOR E REGULAGEM FALAM ALTO

Inside the Ginetta Akula

It took five years for the Ginetta Akula to go from prototype to production. Originally unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Ginetta’s latest offering is a V8 sports car that can compete with the best from Ferrari and Lamborghini. Only 20 examples will be built, priced at €326,252 before taxes.

This British gem boasts a very aggressive exterior, although it is far from the eye-catching Italian sports cars in terms of design. The carbon fibre body and chassis are inspired by Ginetta’s LMP1 racing cars, with double wishbone suspension on both axles. It inherits the best of the brand’s 70 years of racing experience.

In addition, the aerodynamic package derived from the company’s LMP1 G61-LT-P1 race car allows it to achieve downforce levels of almost 400 kg at 160 km/h. It has a flat floor, rotating blades, a huge rear spoiler and a very provocative diffuser. All this adds up to a weight of just 1,190 kg.

And no less interesting is the fact that it has an almost perfect weight distribution (49:51), with the engine placed in the front position. For the wheels, 20 inches were chosen, with Pirelli P Zero tires. Inside, there is a steel roll cage, racing steering wheel, Alcantara upholstery, carbon fiber and aluminum finishes, as well as sports seats with racing belts.

The equipment does not lack technology or safety. The Ginetta Akula has a wireless smartphone charger, its own infotainment system with integration with Apple iOS, ABS, traction control, rear camera, automatic headlights, parking sensors, air conditioning...

The heart of this toy is a 6.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine developed by the company itself, mounted in front of the driver, but well behind the front axle. In other words, it is very similar to Ferrari's new 12-cylinder V12. It is built on a solid Ginetta aluminum block and has a titanium camshaft. Its maximum power of 608 hp is reached at 7,200 rpm and torque of 670 Nm at 5,100 rpm. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 290 km/h.

Power is sent to the rear axle via a limited-slip differential. The fuel tank is 100 liters. The suspension has double wishbones, aluminum struts and rod-operated shock absorbers that can be adjusted electronically from the inside. On the other hand, the front and rear stabilizer bars are also adjustable, but require the car to be stationary. The brakes are made of steel as standard and carbon-ceramic as an option.
