BOSCH E PIRELLI ASSINAM UMA COOPERAÇÃO DE DESENVOLVIMENTO PARA TECNOLOGIA DE PNEUS INTELIGENTES

Pirelli Bosch Cyber Tyre: more safety, comfort, and driving dynamics

The partnership will combine Bosch’s expertise in system-level hardware, software, and MEMS sensors with Pirelli’s Cyber Tyre technologies, including algorithms, modeling, and sensors integrated into the tyre.

Pirelli and Bosch have signed a joint development agreement. The aim is to jointly create new software-based solutions and driving functions, thanks to sensors integrated into the tyres, also known as in-tyre sensors. For drivers, this means greater safety, comfort, and sustainability, as well as improved driving dynamics. Bosch and Pirelli share a long-term vision and intend to jointly explore improved logic for computing tyre signals as potential input for enhanced vehicle dynamics controllers.

The Pirelli Cyber Tyre is the world’s first tyre-based system with integrated sensors, which collect data and transmit it to the vehicle for processing in real time. Bosch has already developed an ESP application specifically tailored to Pirelli tires in an initial joint project with hypercar manufacturer Pagani Automobili. The ‘Pirelli Cyber Tire’ technology in the Pagani Utopia Roadster transmits important tire information to the ESP control unit. This enables optimal use of the tires’ individual properties and performance, providing greater safety and personalized driving conditions.

As a global supplier of technology and services, Bosch contributes its expertise at the hardware and software system level to the development cooperation. Bosch is also a leader in MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) sensor technology and develops and manufactures tire pressure sensors using the ‘Bluetooth Low Energy’ (BLE) standard. By merging this expertise with Pirelli’s in-tire device technologies – hardware and software, algorithms and tire modeling – it will be possible to collect, process and transmit tire data in real time to provide parameters for the vehicle’s electronic control system using BLE with very low power consumption. Pirelli and Bosch now intend to exploit Bosch’s MEMS technology for tire applications.
