Can-Am introduces new line of electrified motorcycles

In the wake of electric cars and bicycles, motorcycles have also embraced the sustainable trend. A new addition to the sector is the company Can-Am, which had stopped manufacturing two-wheeled models a few decades ago, but has made a comeback with an electric motorcycle full of speed and autonomy.

The launch resumes the company's tradition in the sector and is already on sale.

Can-Am, a Canadian subsidiary of Bombardier Recreational Products, became known in the mobility world for its robust four-wheeled utility vehicles (they look similar to dune buggies). However, before that, until the 1980s, the company used to produce two-wheeled vehicles.

Two years ago, Can-Am decided to resume this tradition and announced that it would return to the sector, this time with an electric motorcycle option. As New Atlas recalled, last year, some photos of prototypes and updates on the progress gave customers hope. This week, the company officially announced the arrival of the 2025 line, which includes not just one, but two electric motorcycles. Can-Am's 2025 line features two electric motorcycle models, the Pulse and the Origin. Here are some of the specifications they have in common: Both models have a 47-horsepower Rotax E-Power engine and maximum torque of 72 Nm; They come with a 9.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, capable of withstanding extreme temperatures. According to Can-Am, the models were tested “in the scorching heat of the desert and in the cold temperatures of winter”; This technology is thanks to liquid cooling, which improves the performance of the battery and motor, and reduces battery degradation; With Level 2 fast charging, the electric motorcycle takes only 50 minutes to reach 80% of its capacity. Now let's look at the differences. The first model in the line is designed for city driving.

The electric motorcycle goes from 0 to 96 km/h in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 129 km/h. The maximum range is 160 km on a single charge (which, in the city, should be more than enough).

There are four driving modes: Normal, Sport+ (sporty driving), Eco (economy) and Rain (in the rain). The range may vary according to each mode.

Among the technologies, the motorcycle has parking assistance, adjustable seat, 10.25-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay navigation and connection to a mobile device (such as the driver's cell phone), anti-lock brakes, traction and braking control and shock absorbers.

It is also possible to purchase an optional finish with LED lighting.

The second electric motorcycle(image above) in the new line can also be used in cities, but its true focus is on nature and off-road terrain.

The top speed is also 129 km/h, but acceleration drops to 96 km/h in 4.3 seconds (instead of 3.8). Since it weighs more (187 kg), the range is lower than the previous one: 145 km per charge.

This second option offers six driving modes, including an off-road option.

Among the technologies, there is also an adjustable seat, suspension, touch screen and optional finish (this time, with the option of a windshield).

Price of the Can-Am electric motorcycle... Both Can-Am models are now available for pre-order in the United States. The Pulse costs US$ 13,999 and the Origin costs US$ 14,499
