FORD SUPERVAN 4.2 VENCE O FESTIVAL GOODWOOD DE VELOCIDADE 2024

Ford SuperVan 4.2 takes title at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024

The Ford SuperVan 4.2 was the big winner at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, held last weekend in the United Kingdom. The electric van developed by Ford Performance, the brand's high-performance and competition vehicle division, completed the famous climb of around 1.9 km in 43.98 seconds - more than two seconds ahead of second place.

It was driven by Romain Dumas, two-time Le Mans 24 Hours champion and now three-time Goodwood Festival champion, who recently achieved other milestones with the SuperVan 4.2. In 2023, he broke the record in the International Climb of Pikes Peak, in the USA, and this year he set a triple record in Bathurst, in Australia: fastest lap in a closed-wheel vehicle, in a commercial vehicle and in an electric vehicle, accelerating faster of 300 km/h.

Last month, Romain Dumas also achieved his fifth victory on the Pikes Peak climb with the Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, a demonstration electric super pickup truck. At Goodwood, the track does not allow for such high speeds and the driver's skill plays an important role, skirting the stone walls in the curves.

It's not common to see a cargo vehicle compete in a speed test, but in terms of performance, the SuperVan 4.2 is much closer to a supercar. Instead of an efficient diesel engine, its three high-voltage battery-powered electric motors generate a combined output of 1,400 hp.

The ample cargo space gives way to a cut-out rear end with giant wings on the roof and a huge diffuser at the bottom. At the front, it has a giant divider and heat exchanger. The downforce generated at 240 km/h is around two tons.

“It was great fun as always, Goodwood is just amazing. With two corners to go, I was pretty close to the wall, so I was pushing pretty hard, I must say,” said Dumas. “It's quite impressive to go at this speed in a small area, but again, it was a lot of fun. I’m really happy we won.”

More than winning races, Ford's electric prototype program is a laboratory for improving technologies for its street cars.
