Keeping an eye on Chinese competitor Italian brand prepares first tram for 2025

It is not easy to understand whether Ferrari is more concerned with the launch of its first 100% electric vehicle, next year, or with the threat that Chinese manufacturers pose to those looking for models that use this technology. And this hesitation is difficult to understand as Ferrari, like other super and hyper sports car manufacturers such as Lamborghini or Bugatti, is one of the brands that will suffer least from competition from manufacturers such as the Chinese, who obviously enjoy less reputation and image.

Ferrari, probably the brand with the best pedigree in the automotive world, will present its first tram in 2025, which should cause cold sweats in the administration, led by CEO Benedetto Vigna. This is because, if until now the Ferraris led comfortably, in nobility of mechanics and efficiency of behavior, the change from gasoline to electric engines places the Italian manufacturer founded in 1933 by Enzo Ferrari in unknown terrain, where there are manufacturers with more experience and know-how. -how. And it won't be easy for Ferrari to beat the Rimac Nevera and its 1914 hp in power, range, acceleration capacity and maximum speed, despite all super sports car lovers hoping for this to happen.

Having his first electric super sports car in his hands, Benedetto Vigna took advantage of an interview with Bloomberg to look at the global market and, above all, the European one, which is currently in a situation of open confrontation in relation to Chinese competition, suspected of receiving illegal subsidies from State, which led to an investigation. “For me, this is a call to action in Europe”, declared the CEO to the agency specializing in economic issues, referring to the new competition coming from China.

The threat of China to retaliate in relation to the investigation into illegal subsidies for its models, imposing 25% duties on the import of European models, does not worry the man at the helm of Ferrari much. According to Vigna, “of the luxury manufacturers, Ferrari is the one who will suffer the least with this measure”, he said, recalling that the brand imposed a sales volume of just 10%, due to the taxes that already exist”, a volume that is assured in view of the Cavallino Rampante's reputation in the Chinese market, especially among customers with greater financial capacity.

At the same time, Ferrari's CEO confirmed to Bloomberg TV that its first EV will appear “in the last quarter of 2025”, guaranteeing that its “development is proceeding as intended”. The manager also assured that Ferrari, in addition to the electric vehicle, will be responsible for the production of engines, inverters and batteries – Bloomberg did not ask whether Vigna was referring to battery packs or cells –, with the factory destined to produce Ferraris. EV to be completed in June 2024.
