MOTO GP

Jorge Martín por delante de Pecco Bagnaia y Marc Márquez

MARTÍN HOLDS MÁRQUEZ AND BAGNAIA AND WINS AT LE MANS

MotoGP delivered another mind-blowing race of the 2024 season this Sunday. The French GP at Le Mans was marked by the spectacular fight in the final straight between Jorge Martín, Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Márquez. The Pramac Spaniard came out on top, increasing his lead in the World Championship, with the six-time champion in second, after a beautiful overtake on the Ducati rider on the last lap.

Completing the top 10: Enea Bastianini, Maverick Viñales, Fabio DiGiannantonio, Franco Morbidelli, Brad Binder, Aleix Espargaró and Álex Márquez.

Bagnaia started better than Martín and, after two exchanges of positions between them, the two-time champion took the lead, ahead of the Spaniard, with Espargaró in third, Di Giannantonio in fourth and Viñales in fifth. Marc Márquez didn't have as flying a start as Saturday's, but he rose from 13th to eighth.

Little by little, Bagnaia and Martín isolated themselves at the front. In the next pack, Aleix, Di Giannantonio and Acosta were in an intense fight. And, when trying to overtake the two on the inside of the curve, the young GasGas driver ended up losing his balance and falling to the ground. Shortly afterwards, it was Bezzecchi's turn to fall in the first sector amid a dispute with Bastianini and Quartararo.

With the images showing the increasingly heavy clouds over the circuit, the battle groups were defining themselves. In the first squad, Bagnaia x Martín. Afterwards, Di Giannantonio and Espargaró exchanged positions thanks to their mistakes, which also allowed the trio of Viñales, Márquez and Bastianini to approach.

Espargaró had a lower pace than the others and, little by little, he fell in the classification, losing positions to Di Giannantonio, Viñales, Márquez. And a mistake dropped him even further back, into eighth. Up front, Bagnaia began to breathe, opening up 0s5 to Martín, who was almost 1s ahead of DiGia.

After overtaking Viñales, Márquez began the hunt for DiGia for third position, having to avoid as much as possible a collision and fall in one of his advances on lap 27. The Spaniards took advantage of an escape from the VR46 driver to move up to third and fourth. A little behind, to the sadness of the French public, Quartararo crashed while doing a great race, coming in sixth.

Up front, Martín officially began the attacks on Bagnaia, while they had a 2s2 advantage over Márquez with nine laps to go. With a beautiful maneuver, the Spaniard dived inside to take the lead, while Márquez took advantage to reduce the gap to just 0s6.

With Márquez integrated into the fight for victory, the three started to mark each other with five laps to go, with the six-time champion starting to come after Bagnaia.

After a maddening fight in the final laps, Jorge Martín prevailed to win the French GP and increase his lead in the World Championship. Marc Márquez was second after a beautiful overtake on Francesco Bagnaia on the last lap.

Completing the top 10: Enea Bastianini, Maverick Viñales, Fabio DiGiannantonio, Franco Morbidelli, Brad Binder, Aleix Espargaró and Álex Márquez.

MotoGP takes a week off and returns between May 24th and 26th with the Catalan GP, at the Barcelona circuit, for the sixth stage of the 2024 season.
