MERCEDES-BENZ AMPLIA PACOTE DE SEGURANÇA DE SÉRIE PARA ÔNIBUS RODOVIÁRIO O 500 RSD DE 450 CV

O 500 RSD 2025

Mercedes-Benz expands the standard safety package for the O 500 RSD 2445 bus with 450 hp and automated transmission. Items previously available optionally, such as emergency braking system (ABA5), adaptive cruise control (ACC), intelligent high beam control (IHC) and lane reading system (LDWS), are now part of the vehicle's basic composition. . Check out more highlights of the security package below.

“The constant advances in active safety technology for O 500 buses reaffirm the brand’s commitment to drivers and passengers, to traffic on the roads and to the entire ecosystem of responsible transport”, says Walter Barbosa, vice-president of Sales, Marketing and Parts & Services Buses from Mercedes-Benz do Brasil. “Our Company has always been at the forefront of bus development, being a market reference for its high standard of safety technologies. And we only got this far because we thought about the collective.”

Suitable for High Deck and Double Deck bodies, the O 500 RSD 6x2 bus chassis - available in versions 2445 with 450 hp and 2438 with 380 hp - is suitable for regular transport over medium and long distances, as well as tourism operations.

However, the Mercedes-Benz O 500 range of coach bus chassis is even broader, including several models for short, medium and long distances and for charter and tourism operations. The offer includes 4x2, 6x2 and 8x2 traction versions, both for conventional bodies and for High Deck and Double Deck.

The chassis The 500 RSD 2445 6x2 is equipped with the Mercedes-Benz OM 460 LA engine, which offers power of 449 hp at 1,600 rpm and torque of 2,200 Nm at 1,100 rpm. This engine is joined, as standard, by a 12-speed automated transmission.

“The newest generation of automated transmissions on the Brazilian market, Traxon stands out for its efficiency, robustness, reduced fuel consumption and lower maintenance costs”, says Walter Barbosa. “It also offers driving comfort for the driver and greater safety on the roads, essential attributes for medium and long road distances, typical conditions for passenger transport in Brazil and Latin American countries, markets to which our Company exports its road buses. 500”.

This automated transmission can receive the retarder, advanced auxiliary braking system. “Among its main features, the gear shifting strategy that prioritizes fuel economy, silent operation, high input torque, lower volume of lubricating oil and lower maintenance costs stands out”, concludes Walter Barbosa.

The O 500 RSD's automated transmission is also equipped with EcoRoll (uses the vehicle's inertia to save fuel), PowerMode (gear changes at higher speeds that ensure greater agility when climbing and overtaking) and Hill Start Assistant (system ramp starting assistance).

Reference in advanced safety technologies...Mercedes-Benz has consolidated its O 500 buses with the most complete and technological safety systems on the market. Highlights include the safety package for the O 500 RSD 2445 6x2 with a 450 hp engine and automated transmission, in addition to several other features.

The emergency braking system (ABA 5) intervenes in the event of an imminent collision with moving or stationary vehicles on the road, minimizing the effects of a collision, in addition to recognizing cyclists and pedestrians in motion, a major highlight of this technology. It works based on a microwave-emitting radar in the 77GHz band combined with the LDWS camera. Firstly, ABA 5 emits a visual and audible alert to the driver. If there is no reaction, the system automatically performs a light intervention on the brakes or can even carry out complete emergency braking, if applicable. This reduces the risk of collisions and minimizes the effects of a possible accident. Furthermore, the brakes will remain activated after the bus has completely stopped, until the driver makes a command on the brake or accelerator pedal.

Using the ABA5 radar and the LDWS camera, the adaptive autopilot (ACC) allows the driver to keep the bus at a safe distance from the vehicle in front, equalizing the speed of the bus in relation to the vehicle in front. In an extreme emergency situation, if the driver does not react, the system comes into action, automatically braking the vehicle, minimizing a possible impact. ACC activates at speeds greater than 15 km/h. Regardless of its activation, the driver has complete autonomy to accelerate or brake, simply using the pedals to do so. In other words, the driver always has control of the vehicle.

With a camera mounted on the windshield, the lane reading system (LDWS) detects the bus's position in relation to the road's left and right lanes. Operating at a pre-established speed, the system generates an audible and visual alert that warns the driver if the vehicle is moving out of the lane without intentional movement, increasing traffic safety. An extremely important resource for accident prevention, LDWS detects unintentional lane changes wherever there are markings on the road. Optionally, a vibration alert can be installed by the bodybuilder on the driver's seat, in addition to speakers on the dashboard.

Safety and convenience for the bus driver are also guaranteed by intelligent high beam control (IHC). The system operates autonomously, reducing the high beams when the camera detects opposing light, so the driver can focus even more on the road and traffic. The system uses the LDWS front camera, enabling full integration with the bodybuilder's headlight.

Standard safety package for O 500 RSD 2445 6x2 with 450 horsepower engine and automated transmission from 2024:

ABA5, the fifth generation of Mercedes-Benz's emergency braking system that uses radar to detect other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in motion.

ACC (Active Cruise Control) - adaptive cruise control

IHC - intelligent adaptive high beam control, which ensures greater visibility and safety for other vehicles on the road

LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System) - lane reading system

Note: For the O 500 RSDD 2745 8x2 model, this safety package has been standard since 2023.
