Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2 Targa Theon Design
Codenamed GBR003, Theon Design this week revealed a truly special Porsche 911 (964). It is a Targa model that features details such as a body made entirely of carbon fiber.
The model also has a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated Boxer engine coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission that was improved from scratch.
With a unique pastel blue finish and a licorice leather interior, this Targa is the ultimate Porsche 911 fantasy you can imagine.
To ensure the Targa drives smoothly, the team at Theon developed a system of custom-made carbon fiber reinforcement 'tubes' that attach to the chassis floor, significantly improving torsional rigidity and keeping weight under control. .
The GBR003 is based on a Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2 Targa. The donor car was completely dismantled before being meticulously restored over thousands of hours by Theon experts.
The body of the GBR003 is made of carbon fiber, except for the doors, which are still made of steel to improve protection against side impacts. As with all Theon builds, each panel was scanned and modeled in 3D design software to ensure a perfect fit. Thanks to carbon panels and the use of carbon for floor reinforcement, the GBR003 weighs just 1,228 kg with all liquids.
No stone was left unremoved in the quest for total rigidity, with the orientation and thickness of the carbon laminate optimized through CAD structural simulation software to ensure the stiffest construction possible. Once manufactured, the tubs were permanently bonded to the existing chassis and bulkheads to offer maximum driving stability, even in the most demanding conditions.
The new model features a five-stage TracTive Active Controlled Electronics (ACE) damping system. The damping system has been carefully calibrated to ensure it works in a wide range of environments.
Every element has been refined and improved. For example, aerospace-grade cabling saved more than 20 kg, while modern dual air-conditioning compressors and a new electro-hydraulic power steering pump were relocated to the front of the car, hidden low to help maintain a weight distribution 48:52.
As for the engine, it is a 4.0L naturally aspirated Boxer that produces 403 hp at 7,100 rpm and a maximum torque of 434 Nm at 5,500 rpm.
The interior is full of equipment, including the classic Bluetooth P99RS stereo unit signed by Pioneer and combined with Focal amplifiers and six speakers.
In the cabin, aesthetics and weight savings were chosen. The plastics were replaced by carbon fiber upholstered in leather. Both the front and rear seats are upholstered in the finest licorice-colored synthetic leather.
The exhaust system has been updated and custom-made, giving the GBR003 a quieter and more reserved character in normal use. The valves can be activated manually using a switch located in the passenger compartment, although they can also be opened automatically when entering the rev range.
Thanks to a power-to-weight ratio of 328 hp per tonne (the same as a 991 GT3) performance is guaranteed. To stop the monster, it was decided to assemble a complete braking system (including brake calipers) from the Porsche 911 993 RS. The German sports car is in contact with the asphalt thanks to Michelin Pilot 4S tires on 18-inch Fuchs light alloy wheels.
